BOV is a super cozy and welcoming restaurant which mostly specializes in wood fired pizzas. The staff is friendly during the service but we were initially given a table which was good for two people and we were a company of three. However, after making ourselves clear to the waitress and having seen us struggle trying to not knock things off the table, we were moved to regular sized table for three people. It finally felt like we had our personal spaces without having to brush shoulders against people sitting at the tables beside us. They also say that they don't take bookings, but when we asked the waitress if you could take one of the other tables which were empty, she said there were people coming in the next few minutes. So, they really need to make up their mind and let people know about their booking strategy if they actually want to be accommodating.
The Margherita pizza was basic yet tasty as it should be. The ends were perfectly cooked and the service is pretty quick too. The week's special pizza with Guanciale and Peperoni was really delicious. The spicy notes from the Peperoni were balanced well by the salty meat chunks and cheese. Overall a good experience with the food but from the initial 15 minutes where we struggled to sit in a small table, it isn't a restaurant I'd recommend if you're looking to have a comfortable time with...
Read moreThis restaurant is just opposite my department at Chalmers and after five years, I went there on a Friday evening on a bank holiday. At 5 PM, it was buzzing with people. I am a vegetarian and I ordered a Margherita pizza while my friend ordered the pizza of the week. When mine arrived, there were four stringy pieces on top which I thought to be red onions but my friend tasted it and said that they were fish. This is a costly mistake to make and I hope the restaurant would make a note to not to repeat again!
While my friend was eating, I had to have my glass of wine without the pizza! The waitress was kind enough to top up my glass of Chardonnay. Thank you.
The oven fired pizza was good (thank you for seasoning with the right amount of salt) but I would not say it was excellent. The base was doughy (not cooked enough) at various places, and the melted mozzarella cheese could’ve benefitted from a bit more heat to bring out its rich flavours. Perhaps, a drizzle of olive oil or a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper would’ve helped like they do in the Pizza...
Read moreThe pizza is good, no question on that. However is way overpriced especially considering the horrible service both at the restaurant and when ordering take-away. It is absurd that when you order your pizza you cannot even give an indication of the time at which you would like to have it: if you call them at 7 but want to eat at 8 and they are ready to make your pizza now they will tell you that you have to call them back later. They just cannot take the order and plan when to start preparing it in order to satisfy the request of the client, as a normal pizzeria would do. The problem with calling later is that at that point there might actually be a queue and you end up waiting way beyond the time you wished. They are definitely not service-minded. Another time we got yelled at by the waitress because we were more than 6 and tried to join two tables. I understand that we might not have done the right thing by trying to arrange the tables ourselves, but screaming at customers is...
