Sima Deli — Restaurant in Stockholm

I ordered Zereshk Polo ba morgh, and honestly, it was by far the worst version of this dish I’ve ever had.

First of all, this dish is traditionally made with chicken leg (drumstick or thigh), but here they served it with chicken fillet instead. While this might not seem like a big deal to someone unfamiliar with Iranian cuisine, it’s an important distinction; the leg gives the dish its classic texture and flavor.

Secondly, the chicken fillet had clearly been pre-cooked and refrigerated. It was simply reheated and served in a thin tomato paste sauce. Because it had been reheated, the chicken was dry and far from tender. The whole dish wasn’t even served hot, just lukewarm.

On the side, there was a small salad, which could have been a nice touch, except it was drenched in olive oil to the point where it felt like I was eating grease rather than salad.

When I expressed my dissatisfaction, the waiter simply said, “This is how we serve the dish so non-Iranians will like it,” which didn’t seem like a convincing...

The food here is great! I highly recommend trying Baghali Polo ba Mahicheh — it’s a huge portion and full of flavor. For those who aren’t familiar with Persian cuisine, Ghormeh Sabzi is a great introduction. Finishing with tea and something sweet after the main course is also a lovely touch. I’ve been here twice and reserved a table both times, but it’s also possible to get a spot without one. The staff are very polite, warm, and helpful. They were playing Iranian music the whole time — which added to the atmosphere for me, but was a bit overwhelming for some of my friends who aren’t used to traditional music.
