In the past year we have been to this restaurant 10+ times and its easily been one of our faves in Vaxjo. This last visit was the total opposite of the type of experience we have had in the past. We ordered two maki rolls which took almost 30 mins to come and the octopus and the octopus took nearly 50 mins before it came out. When we got it the waitress told us the skewer would be hot and when we went to eat it the entire dish was cold. My husband and I each took a bite then we had to get the servers attention to tell her it was cold. She brought it back to the kitchen then back to us and argued with my husband about the fact that they always bring the food out when its ready. We explained that it was cold and shouldnt be and she said ok and we told her we didnt want it if it was gonna be cold. She walked away with an attitude. AT this point I figured it was time for us to go so I went inside to cancel the other two rolls we ordered and pay and leave. When I approached our server to tell her we were leaving she said nothing and started ringing us up. WIthout telling me that she was finished she started helping a couple that was behind me and said nothing. I had to ask her if it was ready for me to pay. She just pointed to the machine and said nothing and handed my receipt while speaking to the couple behind me. Didnt ask if something was worng or anything. To add insult to injury after we left my husband realized they charged us for 2 beers when he only had one and when he went back to get them to change it there was still no apology...I hope this beautiful place hasnt lost its charm because of the new location because this experience was extremely disappointing and from the comments it doesnt seem like we are the only ones who have had this...
Read moreHonestly a bit surprised that this place even got onto the white guide. Not that the food was extra bad in any way, but it was basically what I’d have expected when I walk into any remotely proper Japanese or Asian place. The menu was not even fully Japanese, but more like a mixture of Japanese, Swedish-Asian, Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese. It’s like walking into a Spanish tapas place and seeing on their menu meatballs, crepe, baklava, and pizza. Not that those food is any worse than Spanish tapas, but I won’t expect such a menu for a Spanish tapas place that has made its way to the white guide.
So I’d recommend this place for people that are looking for a good dining environment, have been eating asian food mostly from those ‘dumpling-sushi-padthai’ places but want to try something more and better, and don’t mind burning some extra cash. However, if you have had ok-ish Asian food experience before, you might risk getting...
Read moreBefore Izakaya moved to the location next to Elite Hotel, it was one of my top restaurants in Växjö. Yesterday, I had a late Saturday lunch there with friends and we were really disappointed. The welcoming was very poor and we were told to not sit in the bar for a drink while waiting for our friend, although there was a long bar with free chairs. Instead we were told to sit at a table - in a quite impolite manner. After that we had to wait for a long while, no one came to take our order of drinks, so we had to go and ask for it. The food was quite nice but no wow feeling. Some dishes were excellent, like the tataki beef, but others were average like the gyoza and rättika salad. Many of dishes on the menu were not even available. I am sorry to say but Izakaya has lost lots of its atmosphere and excellency. More like hotel restaurant that needs a lot of overall...
