We went here this evening as a special treat before our son goes back to the UK, and were bitterly disappointed by the poor quality of the food. We chose onion bahjis and samosas for starters - the bahjis were in fact dry onion rings and the samosas were also dry - two of them for 10 Swiss Francs!
The time lapse between the starter and the main course was around an hour, but we waited patiently; however, when the food arrived (in small portions ) the curry Madras was so salty that it was inedible and was obviously just some puréed vegetables which had been cooked in beef bouillon. I complained about it and when it was brought back it was no better - perhaps just slightly less salty as some water had been added. The rice which was supposed to be pilau rice with peas, was just plain boiled basmati (with peas) and was tasteless. The sauce of my husband's dish of butter chicken tasted of Campbell's condensed soup and obviously had never been near any ginger or any of the other spices listed on the menu..Our son's Vindaloo was basically flavourless apart from the chilli. All of the main meals were priced at 27 Swiss Francs, plus 6 francs for the rice. The Nan bread was burnt and also served in small cereal bowl sized portions. The popadoms were served in very small quarters and the sauces were also one spoonful sized portions.
In the end they deducted the cost of the curry Madras (27 chf ) from the bill, without being asked to, which was a good gesture, but for the 134 chf we paid it was a sad offering. I would definitely not recommend...
Read moreInitially I booked a table for 9PM. When I reached at 20.58 pm I was told if I am willing to take away and he never had a table available for 30 mins.later I insisted to have dinner there as I've come with family and kids all the way for that. Here comes worst, Later after taking orders, he asked if I need something to drink. We specifically told we need nothing but normal water. I have been several years in Switzerland and over 10 years in Europe, if I say normal it's only tap water (I'm not a tourist). But this guy kept serving me water in already opened bottle and finally in bill he changed 14 CHF for water. I was shocked, when I asked for normal water. Later when I asked them why am I being charged 14 CHF for water when I specifically mentioned normal water, the guy tried to manipulate stating with Fork it's mandatory to order a drink. Which was never mentioned in the terms. What I read in terms and conditions was the water and drinks are not included in the offer. It never insisted to buy mandatory paid drink. Even otherwise the guy gave me water which was in normal bottle which was already open. The bottom never had any seal, and it was given in already opened state. Basically these shops are trying to cheat as they are trying to recover the 30% offer we get from fork in other ways. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Neither the service is fine, not the initial experience or The tase which is Very mediocre only, as probably a foreigner wouldn't know the real taste. Overall I feel cheated, and very disappointed...
Read moreI rarely write reviews, but my recent visit to Mr. Pal Restaurant was nothing short of a disaster. It was hands down the worst dining experience I've ever had. The behavior of the restaurant owner was not just unprofessional — it was downright disrespectful. He treated us as if our presence was an inconvenience, showing no courtesy, warmth, or basic hospitality. It felt like customers were a burden rather than welcome guests. The overall service was equally appalling. There was no sense of care, urgency, or communication. The staff looked disengaged, ignored simple requests, and contributed to an atmosphere that felt cold and hostile. Cleanliness and presentation were also below acceptable standards — and no effort was made to address any concerns during the visit. Honestly, I would never recommend Mr. Pal Restaurant to anyone. If you're looking for a place that values its customers and treats people with respect, look elsewhere. This place has a long way to go before it should be considered a professional...
