While spending an evening at Balexert, I searched for a nearby restaurant and came across Royal Oriental, an Iranian restaurant that seemed promising. We decided to make a reservation and headed there for dinner. The restaurant itself is modest—nothing fancy or luxurious—but it has a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.

What really stood out was the food. The grilled chicken and meat were cooked to absolute perfection—tender, juicy, and full of authentic Persian flavor. Each dish was well-seasoned, and the balance of spices really brought out the best in the ingredients. It’s clear that the kitchen takes pride in its traditional Iranian recipes.

The service was another highlight. The staff were friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was served promptly and with care. Even though the restaurant isn’t high-end in terms of decor, the experience was elevated by the quality of both the food and the service.

Recently, we had one of the worst experiences in this restaurant. We were a group of 45 ladies who had made a reservation several days in advance for dinner. The reservation was made only after we were assured by the restaurant that they will be able to manage the dinner for 45 participants. We were constantly in contact with the management of the Restaurant on the selection of menu as well as number of guests. A member of the group reached the Restaurant an hour before the time to check the arrangements. She was surprised to see that the restaurant did not have the capacity or resources to serve 45 guests. Even the seating arrangements were not adequate. The food was served two hours late by the restaurant even though the menu had been selected well in advance. In addition, the food was insufficient. The restaurant staff continued to serve other guests, while ignoring the group of 45 ladies. After this rather usual experience, we have decided not to visit the restaurant again...

I went to buy stuff and come back as the food is prepared and i was not planning to sit for long as i am a fast eater

He kept nagging on the guest coming with me that was waiting for me and forced him to leave the restaurant without eating

I came back and took the food parcel and ate with the guest in the hotel room and payed the full amount

There is no yogurt or anything offered with the meal only rice and the meal for two persons for 72 CHF which is very expensive

Off course the food was cold

It was a bad experience and the waiter needs to learn how to be customer oriented and polite
