Firstly, food is good here thanks to the kitchen. I mean value for money. Location is also fine.
However, please do not engage in hospitality and restaurant business with such a service team. It’s really disturbing. There are so many complaints about the service and waiters can still act like this (!) it’s only pathetic.
Let me list what they did:
You can’t look at the guests and say “drinks? “ without a proper hi, aloha, hello, buona serata. Secondly, it was raining like hell and we arrived here for refuge with 2 kids and asked for a table and one of the waiters told “no way, come one hour later”. I said there are tables outside and we can sit outside. He said he will think and after walking around some tables around 5 min, he came back and changed his mind and gave us a table unwillingly. You can’t do this especially when there are available tables.
Waiter forgot my pasta and I started 10-15 min after everyone else. After we warned him btw. Waiter literally gave the pasta plate to my face to hold although there is a table in front of me. We all know that you can’t serve like that. From right side of the guest, leave it on the table gently. We needed one more bottle water and could only order after waving as if we are in the middle of a deserted island. You can’t do this either. When he served the water bottles? He just left it in the middle carelessly. We felt like we did smth wrong or made a big offense towards them. Zero communication, no single trial to have a smile even. All waiters and waitresses are walking as if they are at a funeral. They are extremely rude and careless - but this is perhaps my subjective feeling but all others are quite objective. Worst is, he asked if we want espresso and we said no. He said ok I bring the bill / btw these are happening in Italian only. He brought the bill while our daughter was stil eating. He gave me the bill and I gave my card to pay exact amount. He asked me to write the number on the payment station I wrote exactly the bill amount. He said, “no tip?” I said no tip with big puntos… No service, no tip. Not even talking about good service, no service at all.
Absolutely shocking for the waiter but what you really expect. Please don’t do this business with such service and attitude. It feels so bad. Never going to any Dieci restaurant again.
Pity for the chefs in the kitchen. They sell good food and I’m sure they do their best but service ruins...
Read moreYesterday, a good friend and I wanted to go out for dinner and spontaneously decided to visit Dieci. First of all, we shared a pizza – which was very good!
But the service… honestly, shocking.
When the waiter came to take our drink order, we asked for a bottle of white wine. He left, and then another waiter came over (he seemed like the branch manager). He REFUSED to serve us a bottle of wine because we are “only” 19 and 16 – even though that is 100% legal in Switzerland.
I told him we are allowed to order a bottle and that I’d be happy to show him the law. Before I even grabbed my phone, the first waiter – who was actually very kind and more on our side – showed him that it’s legal. But then the manager said in Italian: “Yes, but they want a bottle of wine.” Yes – exactly! But what’s the issue? It wouldn’t have made any difference if we had ordered three glasses each instead of sharing a bottle. (Also due to the price) We just wanted to enjoy a glass or two of wine with our meal.
He still refused and got pretty loud while arguing with us – in the middle of a full restaurant. It was honestly quite embarrassing and made us feel super uncomfortable. Then he started talking about his son not being allowed to drink wine in restaurants, but that he can drink as much as he wants at home – and honestly, I didn’t care at all.
Eventually, he said we could order one glass of wine each – which just made zero sense. Apparently, a bottle is unacceptable, but glasses are fine?
It really felt like we were being judged based on prejudices – as if we were going to get drunk and cause trouble. That assumption came out of nowhere and felt totally unfair, especially since we were just calmly sitting there and hadn’t done anything wrong.
Also: I’m 19. We could’ve even taken the rest of the bottle home. But that option wasn’t even considered.
We really didn’t feel welcome anymore, so we ate quickly, left, and bought a bottle of wine somewhere else. Wouldn’t recommend this place if you want to be treated with basic respect – especially when you’re doing absolutely nothing wrong. (It’s not just about the wine – it’s about the respect and...
Read moreWe went to this restaurant for dinner and the customer service was horrible. Despite having a reservation, we had to wait for 15 minutes for a table.
Once seated, the waiter was aggressive and rude, and when we tried to ask questions about the menu, we were met with impatience and hostility. We were speaking Swiss German, so this wasn’t due to a language barrier.
When the bill came and we asked to pay with a card, the waiter shoved the machine towards us and said “how much you pay? Tip, tip?” He said this in English, likely because he had heard us speaking English together. I imagine he assumed we were from the US (which we aren’t), and thought he could therefore get away with this.
Switzerland does not have a tipping culture, and at best you round up to the nearest 5 or 10 when paying. Never once in over a decade over living here has a waiter ever aggressively asked for a tip like this, especially not after such horrible service. Then, we offered to round up to the nearest 5, and her instead added a CHF 15.- tip to the bill.
This is appalling behaviour. Shame on you Dieci for trying take advantage of...
