Our visit to this restaurant was disappointing and fell short of Gstaad’s reputation.
We were a party of eight, split into two groups of three and five, and noticed the tables were arranged in sets of four. I politely asked a waitress if we could move a chair to accommodate our group more comfortably, and she kindly agreed. Moments later, a staff member named Jon approached us and spoke in a surprisingly rude and aggressive tone. It was unnecessary and made us feel unwelcome.
What could have been resolved with a simple, respectful explanation became an uncomfortable moment for our group. Hospitality should be grounded in respect—and that was missing here.
After reading other reviews, it seems this may not be an isolated case. As Asian visitors, we couldn’t help but wonder if bias played a role. While we can’t say for sure, the pattern is troubling and deserves serious reflection.
I truly hope management takes this feedback seriously and works to improve the guest experience. Gstaad deserves better.
Edited to include my response to the restaurant’s reply:
I am writing this review independently. I was not involved in the alleged exchange at the other table, and my group had a separate interaction altogether.
Objectively, the staff member was already rude from the beginning. I calmly asked him to speak respectfully, and I even brought this to the attention of other staff. While your reply mentions inappropriate language from our group, it’s important to clarify that your staff also used inappropriate language—something you failed to acknowledge.
This review is not written out of emotion but from a genuine concern for the standard of service being offered. I hope management will stop dismissing these incidents and instead use them as an opportunity to improve. Your guests deserve...
Read moreI recently had a disappointing experience at at Victoria restaurant at the Victoria hotel in Gstaad, with my family, including my father, who uses a wheelchair. We purchased a takeaway pizza and wanted to sit down for a brief 5-minute wait, intending to consume our purchase while waiting for someone to arrive. However, an older staff member, who appeared to be a manager or server, approached us in a rude manner, instructing us to leave the premises.
As tourists, we were unaware of the specific rules regarding consuming takeout food on the premises. Nevertheless, we promptly complied with the staff member's request and left the restaurant. Notably, a significant portion of the tables were unoccupied at the time.
While the younger staff members who took our order were friendly and courteous, the older gentleman's behavior was unprofessional and unwelcoming. His tone and demeanor made us feel disrespected and unwelcome.
Given the circumstances, I would advise individuals who are new to the area or unfamiliar with the restaurant's policies to consider alternative dining options. The experience was particularly disappointing, considering the empty tables and the brief duration we intended to stay.
Recommendation: The overall experience may not be suitable for tourists or individuals who value a...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant around 1 pm during the low season (November 11) and got in without the need for a reservation as the restaurant was not busy. The food was delicious. My wife had the pork schnitzel and I had the vegetarian Bruno Rosti (which was the best rosti I have had while in Switzerland and I have had a few). The portion sizes were large, so bring your hungry. The applestrudel dessert was also excellent. The menu was quite extensive with many options. The service was wonderful. Olga took excellent care of us, making sure we had everything we needed just when we needed it, for example, another glass of wine. Language is not a problem here - Olga spoke excellent English, French, and Swiss German, at a minimum. Overall, a very good choice in Gstaad with great food at a...
