We were told how much of an experience this place would mean for guests to St. Moritz. Well we definitely got one that we would never wish to repeat. From the lack of options to reach the restaurant with a practical and economical option, we took the expensive Cat vehicle up a 10 minute bumpy ride. Upon arrival, we were treated as if we were blessed to dine at the venue, rather than feel welcomed. Though the dining room is cosy, warmly decorated with mountain flair, the mixed serving crew just didn’t set any tone. We asked for white wines by the glass and were told they had only 1 option. Very odd for a venue of this supposed calibre. Then the menu was displayed on the server’s phone with a screen shot only. No options and if we did have dietary issues, it did not look like there was a discussion you could have. The only little professional touch was the selection of the red wines of the region that the Manager offered in person when asked. The food though presentable was mediocre at best. There was one male server who hovered 5 minutes after the 1st pasta course was delivered waiting to whisk the dishes away and then returned 2 minutes later as if that made a difference. The end of the evening brought the whole event to a “never again”. The one server who was in charge of the logistics suggested x3 on different groups we could share the return CAT trip to make it fair. At CHF 110 per head it wasn’t an economical option when your meal itself was CHF 96 per head. Finally we thought let’s try this downhill walk since it was late. We were not guided as to what path to take. We were just told to walk down. We took the CAT track path and with the compounding of the snow, you almost needed ice skates to get you down. I slipped three times and finally realised after surviving a tough blizzard day on the slopes, even for me this would not work. We returned to the restaurant for the same server to just say the CAT will be back in 20 mins and here is some cheap limoncello shot to make you feel better for the inconvenience. We saw others who brought sleds and even one fellow had skis. You wonder for those that know and have done this, they were prepared yet for international guests this was such an unwelcoming, take it or leave it experience. The server later showed us a side path that pedestrians do take and pointed to a lantern in the distance as if we should know what that tiny sparkle in the trees would mean for our journey down. Our hotel did call to complain and share the disappointments. We thought they would at least refund one of the trips of CHF220 per couple. No Kuhstal graces and the hotel on their own felt terrible and showed their own generosity. St Moritz isn’t a value for money destination, but principles and rules of hospitality...
