The outside of the hotel Alex is gorgeous, aesthetically pleasing and such a nice location on the lake. We booked a table for 2 at 20:15 last night and had specified it was our Anniversary. When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly car valet, a highlight! We entered and had a hard time to find someone to greet us, the host stand was not at the front door and no one was there. The place was not busy, which was interesting for a Friday night, but they are still quite new. The decor looked very dated, but I that is the style they were going for a bit 70’s retro yacht club. We sat by the window and first glance at the menu we were pleased. They started us with an amuse-bouche, which was yummy. But, when our starters arrived, I couldn’t believe the display. We had ordered the Herbstlicher Blattsalat (as recommended by the server) and the Nüsslisalat. The HB looked like someone dropped it on the floor and scooped it up before bringing it to the table. I took one bite and that was it. The duck liver was NOT fried as mentioned it the menu. You would imagine a nice seared outside and smooth insides. Instead it appeared to be boiled, cover up its horrendous unappetizing state in apples bits, was full of sinew and tasted awful. I love liver and was incredible turned off. My empathetic husband changed plates, but he too couldn’t eat it. He said it tasted off, which it could have been. The Nüsslisalat was ok, the cold decorative bacon strip looked and tasted like it was cooked yesterday, but the egg was nicely done, with a crispy exterior. We wanted to have the HB removed as we both were not going to eat it, but we couldn’t get the attention of our server. She kept on serving other tables around us, without making eye contact. There was no enjoyment check up. We finally flagged down another waiter and explained we both did not like the salad as it was inedible and sent it back with only a few bites removed. I promise you this is the first time we have EVER sent back a meal. Our server acknowledged we did not enjoy the first course and gave an apology but didn’t offer us an alternative. We moved on. It seemed to take forever for food dishes and wait staff were not very attentive in general, which was surprising as it was not busy at all. Our main course came, we ordered Combination of Pork: Braised Pork cheek, Crispy Pork Belly, Celery and Parsley Mash and the Pan Fried Venison Medaillons with an Herb Crust, Bacon Brussels Sprouts, “Spätzli”, Cranberry-Pepper Jus. The pork was child-like plated and was over cooked, tough, and not quite ‘crispy’ pork belly. The mash was delicious. The venison’s presentation again looked a bit rough. But the sprouts, spätzle and jus tasted great. The three version medallions weren't cooked consistently and more like herb dusted, not ‘crusted’. Both were disappointments for meals that cost CHF54 & 62! Server did not once check up on us, to see if we liked the second course. Attentiveness would be the biggest thing they lacked. The dessert menu is sparse, three selections and ice cream/sorbet. I decided to skip, but for the occasion my husband got the William’s Pear sorbet. Tasted like frozen gum, yet another fail. We asked for the check. On top of it, not once did anyone acknowledge our Wedding Anniversary. Why ask if you have a ‘special occasion’ during the reservation if they clearly don’t care? I wasn’t expecting a free glass of champagne but a simple 'Happy Anniversary' would have been nice. The bill CHF176: 2 starters (they charged us for the HB salad CHF21, that we did not eat), 2 mains, 1 water, 1 glass of wine, and sorbet). No manager came to speak to us about the meal, nothing was taken off our bill, they really didn’t care. We paid, did not want to make a fuss, as it was our Anniversary and we enjoyed each others' company greatly. The Boathouse was a complete disappointment. We will not go back, to eat and will not recommend to our guests, family or friends. Again, the valet guy greeted us warmly on the exit and was genuinely a lovely end that left a bad taste in our mouths. Literally.

Love Alex, we’ve stayed there and have had breakfast, lunch and dinner in their restaurant and terrace multiple times. Always excellent. This time just had a nice glass of bubbles and my husband wine with a steak tartare. They have an pretty complete selection of spirits and wines in their bar and I love the atmosphere. Today we came with our dog and sat outside, I just wish you could see a bit more of the lake from the bar terrace as you they have one of the most amazing views from the lake in the restaurant and it’s terrace. About our room last time we stayed there, it was a corner room with gorgeous views, I liked the bed and sitting area separation. I found our bathroom a bit small but loooved the kitchenette which I was definitely not expecting. The spa has good services had a great massage and my mom has had a facial there which she loved. They have a small area in the spa with sauna, steam room and “pileta” to soak.

My go-to restaurant when I have friends and family visiting Zurich. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the view is absolutely stunning(you have a great view on the Zurich lake) I’ve always received a warm welcome at the Alex. Whenever possible, there’s even a valet during the day to assist with parking, which adds a touch of convenience and class. The food, as always, was excellent. My family was thoroughly impressed with the entire dining experience. The service was exceptional. The waiter went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and even provided small books to entertain my nephew and niece—a thoughtful gesture that made the evening even more special. This is a must-visit restaurant, and I highly recommend it!
