From the moment we stepped into Barranco, we were swept away by an experience that delightfully engaged all our senses. This restaurant isn't just a place to eat; it's a culinary journey that pays homage to its cultural roots while introducing a flair of modernity and innovation.
Firstly, the ambiance strikes the perfect balance between elegance and comfort, making it the ideal backdrop for anything from a romantic evening to a special family gathering. The décor, which tastefully reflects cultural motifs, complements the overall theme of the restaurant. Soft, ambient lighting paired with an eclectic selection of music creates an atmosphere that's both lively and intimate.
The staff at Barranco deserve a standing ovation. Our server was not only attentive and prompt but also incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, offering insights into the dishes' origins and the chef's inspiration. Their wine pairing suggestions were spot on, elevating each course to a level we hadn't anticipated.
Now, the real star of Barranco - the food. To say each dish was a masterpiece feels like an understatement. We embarked on a flavor expedition with the starters; the freshness of the ingredients sang through, promising an extraordinary meal ahead. My main course was an exquisite symphony of taste and texture, blending traditional cooking methods with avant-garde elements. The chef's ability to make every ingredient shine individually, yet harmonize perfectly in the dish, speaks volumes about the meticulous care and passion poured into their cooking.
Dessert was the grand finale, a sweet testament to Barranco's commitment to excellence. It was the perfect ending to an evening that danced along the lines of magical. The creativity presented in taste, presentation, and texture was nothing short of a culinary standing ovation.
Furthermore, the measures they've taken to ensure guests' health and safety in these times were thorough, making us feel well-cared-for and secure without detracting from the dining experience.
Barranco isn't just a meal; it's an unforgettable experience that tantalizes the palate, warms the heart, and nurtures the soul. It's a celebration of culinary artistry and tradition, all wrapped up in an atmosphere of hospitality and joy. This restaurant deserves every one of its five stars, and I recommend anyone looking for an extraordinary dining experience to make reservations. Barranco has not just met our expectations—it's...
Read moreI recently had dinner at Barranco, where I was welcomed in a nice, intimate terrasse next to a quiet square. I mainly chose the restaurant because I am a big ceviche fan, but I was also happy to try something different and of other latin american influences. The salmon ceviche in beetroot leche de tigre was very good and kept a nice acidity despite the beetroot. The fish was very fresh. We then had the lubina, which was rather small and left us disappointed in terms of portions. We were told right when we arrived that the restaurant uses a sharing concept, where I thought they had some entrees and then proper plates (in terms of portions). The lubina was really a small piece of fish, hard to divide with another person. In addition, the sauce was very good, but definitely a bit too much for such a small portion of fish. Then, we followed with the meat. We had the meat with mole, which was good, but it was a pity that the mole covered the entire meat flavour, because mole is rather a strong sauce. The braised pork was good in taste, although there was no connection between the crust and the inside, which was gearing towards a dry taste. Desserts were fine; I really liked my churros - very light, and the corn sauce was very original, and my partner liked his chocolate olive oil ice cream. We were very surprised to be charged 10 CHF for some tap water. I read in the bottle that they were supporting some projects (or at least this was my understanding), but the price was a bit much to me and left a dry taste in my mouth, especially after the small portions of plates. I am not saying that the food is not worth the money because the ingredients and their quality were really good; I am saying that for that price, the portions of some plates could be reconsidered. The tastes are original, and I definitely recommend it for a...
Read moreThe food was great although I don't know Peruvian food at all. The only thing I have reservations about is the cost to eat at a restaurant like this one. Very expensive. We were two people. My partner had really wanted to eat at this place having heard good things about it. Our waiter told us "We recommend you share and start with 6 dishes" but at about CHF25 each dish, that's a big start... without drinks etc of course. Real people cannot afford these prices, as if being able to "afford" something justifies the expense... Zurich people may enjoy throwing money away like this but I'm just getting tired of a world made for those with money to burn. We ended up with 5 dishes and not full bellies but yes, it was delicious. The food is small, fussy and pretty. It's fun to stare at your food a minute before destroying this artwork but again... I don't know. The world is going to hell very quickly but people refuse to open their eyes to it and eating in places like this... does it help us to ignore our responsibilities as global warming shoves us all off the cliff? I won't be...
