Great affordable place to stay in Zurich. Pros: - Great location that's about a 15 minute easy flat walk to the Zurich HB main train station. It's even faster if you are using a public bike or tram. - Nice spacious bathroom. My room also had a balcony. And there was a nice curated feel to the room with old safes repurposed as bed stands and mid century modern chair. - The train station was my go to home base as there were plenty of shops, affordable take away eateries, and grocery store that were open on a Sunday or open late or early. - Stay where the locals are instead of the tourist area. There's a convenience store next door and some restaurants on the block. Plenty more in the larger neighborhood and even a Coop grocery store. There's a public bike station across the street. - Really nice smelling soaps and shampoos - WiFi was great Cons - No air conditioning and no fan so if it's hot during summer then the room gets hot. I closed the drapes during the day and opened the balcony door to let cooler air in at night. That made it fine. There's heaters in the room for winter. - Squeaky wooden floors. That's part of the charm of an older building. Also the walls are thin so you can hear the floors squeaking in the room above you when they walk around. And I could hear when someone was walking in the hallway (squeak). I can live with it for the price and the spacious privacy. - It's a guesthouse and not a hotel so there's not 24 hour reception. If you are arriving after hours then let them know ahead of time so that they can email you instructions for how to retrieve your key after hours. My original flight was cancelled so I arrived very late at night and they were super helpful about it. Daytime the reception is in the cafe downstairs. - It was a nice powerful rainfall shower but the drain in the shower was a little slow. Tip: I don't know if they can hold luggage in the cafe so I just used the lockers at the train station.

Charming hotel! We enjoyed our stay here and it was a nice reprieve to find a spacious room that could sleep our family without scrunching into small beds, cots, etc. The owner and staff were super nice! We were reminded ahead of our visit, and had great communication during. They even got us an extra blanket when I was worried about being cold (and didn't realize there were already two on the bed)! Our setup was a couch, a double bed and also a twin bed. The only downside was bright light on the floor we were on from nighttime signage illuminating through the curtains. I tricked out a facemark to become an eye mask and then slept well. it's quiet and near mass transit. The breakfast is really tasty - great coffee, bakery items, and of course bread, cheese and such. If doing weekend brunch, reserve your spot! Showers are quite warm even if shared and we felt comfortable as you share with just a few rooms. The toilet and showers were clean and I lucked out bringing shower shoes anyway in my bag. The faucet is confusing for a new comer. The 'U' level turns the water on and off. There is a small knob beneath that twists to directionally determine how hot you want the water (or cold). I can't want to come back!

Family-friendly and creative place with toys for children and artistic wall-decorations downstairs and retro furniture upstairs. The place is clean and comfortable, and ideally located at walking distance on the edge of Zürich's city centre, right next to its restaurant district. Although personnel is not always entirely up to speed with things, they're both friendly and polite, and happy to teach you the ropes of the city. Such as that you'll always need to make a reservation when going out for food - whether for breakfast, lunch or dinner - and what parking alternatives exist in case the pension's own limited parking space is unavailable - i.e. that you can get a day-pass (Tagesbewilligung) that allows you to park your car in the blue zones throughout town. Though our stay here was not without the necessary confusion, we really enjoyed our time here - especially so with our toddler son who was warmly welcomed and found plenty of toys to play with in the café-restaurant. The pension and its personnel came to feel like family who saved us numerous times when our lack of knowledge of the city caused us headaches. So when next visiting Zürich we're sure to come back here!

UPDATE: to clarify, accommodation details were duly checked in advance and things like shared bathrooms and check-in time were obviously not a surprise. What was is what you get for the money. Ensuring guests have basics like coffee, tolerable room temperature, and a way to get a hold of the host and drop off luggage are some very, very basic needs. If you like being stranded on the street corner for 2 hours after your flight because nobody is there until 9 am to even let you in, if you enjoy the misery of no air conditioning in July (not even on the hottest of days), if squeaky floors and shared bathrooms are your thing, if you love listening to loud music at night because your room faces the park where bums hang out, if you're ok not even having coffee in the morning (or paying 15 francs for breakfast) - then by all means, book this place!

Misleading photos online! They make it look like a small boutique hotel. In reality, no modern furnishings or artwork like these, and we had 2 different rooms booked. Ours were a hodgepodge of old furniture in one and bare minimum from Ikea in another. We booked 4 months in advance and paid $1,200 for these two rooms for 2...

We booked four rooms nearly a year in advance to accommodate our family for our wedding in Zurich. During the booking call, we clearly insisted that all rooms should be located on the same floor — a request that was confirmed by the manager.

Upon arrival, we discovered that the rooms were spread across several floors, without any prior notice. Some of our guests were minors, which made this separation even more problematic.

It then took almost an hour at reception before anyone provided an answer — with no real solution or follow-up. Despite several email exchanges, no apology was offered and no commercial gesture was made, even though we had breakfast at the property on Saturday morning.

The manager merely stated that the rates were “competitive for Zurich in high season,” even though the issue had nothing to do with price, but with poor organization and lack of communication during the booking process.

In summary: decent rooms (but without private wc 1 room out 4!) , but very disappointing customer service, a total lack of empathy, and no consideration for a reservation made a year in advance. I truly do not recommend this place, especially for groups or families. Very disappointed by the service and the lack of...
