Café Boy — Restaurant in Zurich

I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to the “new” Café Boy. My friend and I were given a very warm welcome, and the food was excellent.

I had a delicious trout fillet served on a bed of carrots, accompanied by a few potatoes and the most delightful butter sauce, garnished with tiny croutons and capers that added a lovely acidic note. The side salad was also very enjoyable, with a nice tangy vinegar dressing.

That said, I was a bit disappointed by the interior. It was much more charming when Stefan and Iann were there. Sadly so the huge drawing of the beef is gone. Now, there are oversized mirrors that make the room feel oddly impersonal. The wine shelves are hidden behind heavy black curtains, and the table arrangement reminded me a bit of a men's school dining hall—or even a prison cafeteria—though the white table settings help lighten the atmosphere.

Still, as I learned in Paris, what’s on the plate matters more than how the table looks. As my professor used to say, the food often costs more than the table it’s served on. I can live with that—and in this case, I liked...

A great restaurant in the heart of district 4. The food is great. Freshly made and the combination makes you dream on your next vacation to Tuscany. The wine selection is impressive and the service is extremely friendly. The menu is seasonal and has a nice Mediterranean note that matched perfectly the time of the year. We decided to let the chef take the lead and ordered the menu surprise, which was a great choice: we started with a small selection of starters plates, full with greens, fish and some toasted bread with a homemade Rouille. The fresh made pasta was heavenly and the main course was a delight. This place has the potential of becoming a 5 star restaurant. A political building in which everything seems political. Even the water costs are being donated. Service can be improved. As you can see from one picture with the waitress holding up the bar. Quality of the food is up there and would not change it.
