I won't go back. I went to Bebek last night to meet a few friends and our experience was underwhelming. Service was mediocre, the food was ok, and the drinks I cannot say since I ordered one cocktail and got something else instead.
One of my friends accidentally brushed one of the waitresses in the way back from the bathroom, and the waitress dropped a bottle. My friend felt super bad and was very apologetic. She came back to the table to then receive cold eyes from that waitress, and finally, the waitress came to our table to tell my friend she had elbowed her, and tell my friend she should be more careful. I understand that is unpleasant to have such a thing happen, but in a restaurant, the staff should not make a big deal of that and much less come to call out a client at their table for making a mistake and to blame them.
I asked our waitress whether they would be able to make a cocktail off the menu (a dirty martini) and she said of course. I had the impression she didn't understand what I was saying, but she confirmed they could make it. Half an hour later I get another drink -- martini, the beverage -- in an oversized shot glass. Another half an hour later and I had my martini, but it was anything except a dirty martini. I wouldn't mind if they told me that they didn't make anything off the menu, but if they said yes, they should at least make sure they are making what's been ordered.
Anyway, if you want to eat overpriced average food, in a not very friendly setting, then...
Read moreI’ve been to this restaurant twice with different friends. The staff is unfriendly and can be downright rude and out of place. A friend barely touched a waitress as she was coming back from the bathroom and the waitress let something fall on the floor. My friend was very apologetic before coming back to her chair next to me. The waitress came to her a bit later to tell her off in an angry way about pushing her and telling her not to do that, to be more careful next time (?!!!) I had never in my life witnessed this. We were ready to leave the place but as we were 9, our friends thought it would difficult to move and preferred not to make a scene. By the end of the meal, we proceeded to tell another member of staff about what had happened. The person was shockingly dismissive and seemed to blame my friend again for the incident! Throughout the meals, we also had the « privilege » to have the waitress roll her eyes to some of our requests e.g a ninth friend coming a bit later to join us for the meal or one person asking for some water!
The food is fine but the experience so nasty that I definitely won’t be going back to this restaurant! If you are looking for a lovely atmosphere and a friendly experience,...
Read moreOne thing that stands out about Bebek is simply the ambiance. Inside you are welcomed with massive ceilings and an epic staircase. The concrete walls have subtle and strange art painted on them, and I'm a fan. If you find yourself atop the staircase, which you should, because who doesn't want to see what's up there? You'll find a cool bar with intimate seating, and the bathrooms. Those are kind of important. It fun to also look down at all the people eating. Like I said.. it's just a really cool set up and ambiance.
The food is wonderful. The moussaka was freaking delicious. Fantastic flavour and really nice blend of ingredients and textures. We also really loved the falafel. The other things we ordered (halloumi, oliven-labneh, tzatziki hummus, and tabouleh) made the meal absolutely delicious. The combo of awesome flavours and textures is totes key, and we smashed it! yes, I've apparently become an Australian surfer.
Anyway, Bebek is a winner. Ambiance, CHECK, good food, CHECK, great...
