Yesterday my friends and I went to eat dinner at Ooki. We really like Japanese cuisine so we were looking forward to discover a new place. The restaurant is nice, has a casual design. We decided to seat outside. The stuff was really nice, but.... My friend and I ordered Udon with Tempura Shrimps. Another friend ordered Tantamen. Our Udon was ok, not amazing but neither bad. The tempura shrimps were good, the udon noodles were not so tasty and they didn't taste as if they were freshly made at the place. Our friend's soup was a disaster. It had no taste, was really bad. He likes very spicy food and eats spicy often but the problem wasn't with the 🌶. The soup simply had no taste, there were not enough herbs used in making it, and was really dull. He even didn't finish it. Just ate a bit and left the bowl full. The waiter who came to our table to take the plates, didn't ask why the soup is left uneaten, which we find really strange. The stuff at the restaurant was nice but we feel that they should ask the guests what do they think about the food. We didn't feel that there was a vibe to explain about how bad the dish was, since nobody seemed to care whether we liked it or not. Again, this criticism is not directed against the waiters but against the policy of not asking the guests whether they are enjoying the food or not. It is truly disappointing cause we live nearby and we were looking forward to eat there often. We hope that the mangers take our review to heart and will try to improve, then we gladly come back, since we enjoyed the atmosphere...
Read moreBeen coming here since 2018 and it was a good experience for the most part until recent months. The cook quality is inconsistent and just today, the tendon I had was simply terrible. Soggy tempura and rice soaked in sweet sauce that was just overwhelming. To be fair, I told my waiter and he was very nice and accommodating enough to ask the kitchen to crisp up the tempura in my dish. It was a little better but a far cry from when I first had it. My dinner partner had spicy miso udon that was far from how it used to be, and he orders this pretty much every time he’s there. It was not spicy at all and what used to be a decent serving of vegetables was not anymore. The first time it came, the kitchen had served up ramen instead of udon. The kitchen seems to have been cooking that day without love and attention. Perhaps it’s the long extended hours. To add insult to injury, the prices seem to have gone up. I am gutted and terribly disappointed with how one of the best Japanese joints in Zürich has lost its edge. Ooki, sorry to say, you’ve lost a...
Read moreI was so exciting to find another ramen restaurant in Zurich but unfortunately not as expected. I wanted to give 2 1/2 stars. The place's nicely decorated, price's ok, staffs were attentive but the food was only mediocre. The shumai was dry/hard and no flavor, agedashitofu was hard tofu, not the soft tofu that I know of, the outer part wasn't light and fluffy. Tako(octopus) was quite tasty. I have tempura udon for main, the shrimp tempura was way over cooked, and the batter wasn't light and fluffy like it should be. The veg. tempura couldn't even figure out what it was by looking at it. The udon wasn't the round and thick ones that we are familiar of. The broth wasn't rich, not much flavor either, definitely not on par with those traditional ramen shops. It definitely doesn't live up to people expectation whom know about this kind of food. I am still hoping maybe it was one off because I am so wanted to have a decent ramen shop here. I guess I still need to go to Düsseldorf to satisfy my craving for...
