My lunchtime visit to Kai presented a contrasting culinary experience. I began with the miso soup as an appetizer, which was exquisite – a highlight that shone amidst the meal. The restaurant's ambiance is inviting, as the interior boasts an artistically pleasing design with a color scheme that distinguishes it as a gem among other Asian dining locations.
However, while the setting was a feast for the eyes, the main course – a tuna sushi plate – proved to be an underwhelming encounter. The sushi lacked the vibrant flavors one anticipates from such a dish, bordering on bland. Portions of it succumbed to sogginess that undermined the expected texture quality. The rice associated with the sushi displayed an over-stickiness, leading me to believe the sushi preparation may not have been as fresh as one would desire.
Adding to my disappointment was the pricing structure. I found the cost to be excessive, particularly with a CHF 12 charge for a homemade ginger ale that seemed to be a simple concoction of ginger, sugar, and sparkling water. Unfortunately, this raised questions about the value for money.
While the allure of trying the a la carte menu lingers, suggesting the potential for a better dining experience, I cannot endorse the lunch menu based on this visit. My rating reflects the highs and lows: 1 star for the sushi, yet the palatable miso soup elevates my overall assessment to 2 stars.
In conclusion, despite the pleasing visual presentation of Kai's dishes and the loveliness of the setting, the flavor profiles and texture of the key offerings fell short of expectations. Kai, I believe in your potential, but there's room to elevate the dining experience to match the promise shown by your décor and...
Read moreKai Sushi, at the various Zurich locations in Seefeld, Schiffbau etc., deliver the same level of high quality food in an attractive smart casual restaurant setting with solid service. The customer has the choice between traditional Sushi and some more adventurous combinations that are more commonly found in other locations like London, New York or San Francisco. It caters to both the Sushi purist as well the customer less keen on raw fish or Sashimi. The service is very friendly, reservations are easy, take away is available and also easy. When it first came on the scene it was a breath of fresh air in the very staid Zurich Sushi market. A few years in it...
