I am going to give them 4 stars and here is why. We had the hardest time finding food with flavor in Switzerland other than curry or Chinese places. So this little taco shop was so good to us after 3 weeks. The carnitas were better than the beef. The churros were really really small and I expected the chocolate to be Swiss Chocolate but it almost tasted like american Hershey’s chocolate syrup. I did not like the Chocolate sauce. The tacos were small but we went on Tuesday which is taco Tuesday buy 2 get one free which made it more economical. All the complaints about price means the people must not be from Zurich because like other posts say you cannot find inexpensive food in Zurich it doesn’t exist we looked. We are a family of 6 yeah it wad our main mission to find inexpensive food. The meat was juicy and flavorful, the sauces were spicy but just right and the only complaint other than the chocolate sauce is their tortillas are not homemade. The yelp map sent us to the wrong place, google maps wasn’t exactly correct either but you will find it and it is worth it. I couldn’t request an edit because I didn’t have WiFi on my phone at the time.

I had the chance to visit La Taquería for dinner, and despite not reading any reviews beforehand, I was pleasantly surprised! The restaurant specializes in authentic Mexican cuisine, and the food truly delivered. I started with the nachos good flavor, crispy and fresh. I’d rate them a solid 7/10. Next up was the California Burrito, which was absolutely delicious. I only wish they added a bit more beef and ingredients inside, but still, it deserves an 8.5/10. For drinks, I tried the Mexican cola it had a unique and refreshing taste, different from regular colas. Highly recommended! To end the meal, I had the churros with chocolate - 10/10, no words needed. They also offer caramel as a dip. The atmosphere was cozy and lively, with friendly staff making the experience even better. If you’re looking to explore Mexican flavors in Zurich, La Taquería is a must-visit. Make sure to call and book in advance, as it can get busy!

Best Mexican food in all of Zurich. The location is a little hidden in Altstetten and might be out of your way if you are visiting the city but it is definitely worth the trip. The food is closest to California style tex-mex. Someone told me the owner loved this style so much from his travels that he opened this place so he could have it here in Zurich (maybe just an urban myth). I recommend you order the chicken burrito - make sure you ask for extra cheese - absolutely delicious. I also used to love the churros with chocolate sauce but they recently swapped to a caramel one which I am less fond of. The vibe of the restaurant is very chill and instagramable, although limited in space so best to reserve. You can also order take away but I think they suffer from their success and it's a bit of a lottery if it will be available on the day.

Editing my review after another visit! It was wonderful and the food was fantastic! I am thrilled about this! Keep up the good work :-) I will be returning again for sure!

OLD REVIEW DEC 2021

My wife and I visited on 12/12/2021 and were extremely disappointed in the food. Now I write this because this is not our first visit but rather our third in the last one year or so. The first two times the food was impeccable and delicious. However this last visit of ours was highly disappointing. This is why I felt compelled to share my thoughts. We held the food here at high regard and on many occasions even recommended the restaurant to friends.

I am not sure what happened, whether there was a change in kitchen staff or management but the food simply isn't what it used to be. For us this was very disappointing. My wife ordered a vegi burrito which came cold, and the rice was hard and undercooked. My California burrito had very chewy meat and the refried beans were burnt. The tortillas were hard and felt rubbery.

On the flipside the staff was very friendly and I must say the selection of beer is great! also the hot sauces are extremely tasty and made our experience a little better. I would like to say that this experience is purely based on the Altstetten restaurant and not the Kreis 4 one. As a Zurich native it was very disappointing to have this experience at a restaurant I once regarded as the best Mexican restaurant in town.

I have seen a few other reviews here, where people are sharing a similar sentiment of it not being what it used to be. I hope you guys can bounce back! We hope to visit again and have a...

After two years in Europe (Germany and Switzerland mostly) this is the best SoCal style Mexican restaurant that I could find. And I have been looking extensively for good Mexican and sampling in every town I visit with mixed results. The prices compared to other local Mexicanish restaurants also make this place a good find. I have been there every week since they opened so far and never disappointed. The owners (one of which is from the San Diego, CA area) are also very friendly and accommodating. I had my birthday dinner there and they went to great extent to make it memorable with signs and decorations and even a dessert with a candle in it.

-Update - 4+ years later, this is still the best Mexican restaurant in Europe. Can get very busy, so it is recommended to make a reservation during normal lunch and dinner times. They are always adding to the menu and decor. I try to go at least once a month even after moving a bit further out of town. Last week my wife and I bought lunch and got dinner...
