Backpacker Cafe — Restaurant in Da'an District

A great place for friends to meet up, a casual meeting with a business associate, or an opportunity to just treat yourself to something nice. Great atmosphere inside with nice big windows offering a quaint view of the local neighborhood. Menu options are plentiful and priced well for the amount of food you get. Menus also had English translation if you cannot read Chinese. I had the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict which came with a small salad, choice of fries/sweet potato/or a different side, and a drink. Food was served hot, and in a reasonable time. Salmon had a great smokey/salty flavor that went well with the slightly sweet Hollandaise sauce. The eggs were poached just right. In my opinion, the thing that impressed me the most was the orange vinaigrette on the side salad! It had a wonderful citrus flavor that wasn't overpowering and made the salad really enjoyable. Tried the French fries ( very good ), the short ribs with salmon ( salmon good. ..... Short ribs too tough. .... probably not the place for beef, my only complaint ), the pork with scallops ( much better , and get their special bread instead of bagel or croissant), had their coffee and crepe with hazelnut and banana..... both very good. Our meals came with extras of soup .....clam chowder, and a juice , which I did not expect. Overall very good. We waited a good 20 to 30 minutes for our coffees. Upon inquiry, a waiter said it’s being made and retorted “Ok?” When I asked the waiter behind the counter, he simply said “we’re busy, sorry”, with an attitude. I later realized there were only two waiters (who also need to make drinks) for the entire place, with 40+ patrons. This explains the snail-paced service and bad attitude. The owner/manager should hire more help or close down half of the space, instead of spoiling the customers’ dining experience.

Overcooked hamburger is not juicy at all. Small patty.
