I booked the ‘afternoon tea’ time for the buffet here for 4:15 and there was a small hiccup in the beginning when we arrived we were told “Afternoon tea finishes at 4:30, do you still want to eat for 15minutes, or you can wait until 5:30 for the dinner time buffet”. I was quite surprised and disappointed in this. Why on Earth would it let me book 4:15 time when nobody is going to eat there for 15minutes?? One member of staff said she called me before I arrived but that was already when we were on our way. So we had no option but to wait another 1hr 15mins and it was raining so we had nothing to do other than to wait in the hotel lobby. This was a terrible first experience which I do not expect from a 5 star hotel.
On the other hand, everything else about the (now dinner) was great. There’s a good selection of foods from different cuisines. My favourite part is the Indian corner with curries and fresh naan bread than a chef will cook for you in a few minutes. The lamb and roast beef is also great. There’s lots of other dishes for you to try as well as lots of drinks and desserts including cake and ice cream. Another good thing about this is there is no time limit so you can really take your time eating for dinner.
We were celebrating my girlfriends bday and they surprised her with a chocolate cake that came from the cake shop also located in the hotel. The hotel itself is what you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Very clean with professional staff. Again everything was great except the start which is why the review gets 4 stars instead of 5.
The price is expensive but that was expected and we were celebrating a birthday there. Overall, it was a nice...
Read moreSorry but they have completely dropped the ball. Quality of food was below average, most of which tasted like it was sitting out for a long time and warmed up, left cold and warmed up again. A lot of the food was hard and dried out like the potatoes. The spare ribs were awful I had to spit it out. Not really sure how the other reviewer are giving high reviews.
Seafood was tasteless I didn’t even go back for seconds. The sashimi was cut to order and was fresh but that was hidden away behind some counter and not on display.
The variety was good, but nothing was outstanding or even good in terms of quality. For the price they are charging, you would expect much better. This is not even worthy of food court quality status.
And don’t be fooled by the “din tai fung” station, it’s a gimmick, nothing din tai fung about the food there. I actually didn’t see anything at the station to serve and I had to ask the server what was available. Basically some kind of cake that was hidden away.
Really they need to change their chefs if they believe this is good enough food to be serving.
I dined there at lunch. Would...
Read moreFor birthday celebration. It’s a bit more pricey than most of the TPE hotels but it was newly renovated and the nice ambience are the plus. We could have the corner seats and stay away from the crowd. As a big fan of Shagri-la(golden circle member) and have been stayed in different locations of Shangri-la hotels would be pretty disappointed to see the Indian counter is mediocre. The naan is not crispy and the counter seems almost no one is paying attention to. The beverage variety is not enough esp for the tea selection. The dessert counter is a bit messy and the some desserts(eg apple tart and apple puddings) have been run out for half an hour and no refill at last. The responsible staff attitude is as cold as the ice-cream when we asked for some cakes inside the showcases. Other hotel staffs will gently reminded of the finishing time but here the staff suddenly brought forth tools and was eager to tidy up our table(around 2:15) without notifying us of the lunch ending time. The general impression of the shangri-la around the world is professional and accommodating, but not true to here. Overall not worth...
