I have been craving laksa for a long time now. I planned to visit the area for other reasons but I found this gem and they also served laksa so I went here yesterday to satisfy my craving.
Food: Laksa - The first time I slurped the soup I literally felt like on a cloud nine. I just missed this taste so bad. It has a nice kick of heat to your tongue and a good amount of creaminess from coconut milk and a hint of acidity from calamansi. I really love this.
Garlic Naan - The naan is sooo garlicky which I loved btw, chewy and a bit thick so I suggest eating it first when it arrives on your table. It tastes better when it's still hot.
Chicken Nuggets - It's crispy and quite flavorful and a bit dry. I guess the chickens are frozen.
White Coffee - As a coffee lover, I love this. But It would be better if the coffee was stronger than the sweetness from the condensed milk. However, the sweetness is not overwhelming. So, I still love this.
Service:
I have been assisted by a staff that knows how to speak English so it's a good thing for me because I don't know how to speak Mandarin. He asked me if I ate pork, because their restaurant is non halal. He also informed me on how to order the food.
As an introvert, it's a plus for that they have a Qr code where you can order the food on your phone or you can also order from them at the counter.
Atmosphere:
I have never been to Malaysia before but the atmosphere is great. It felt like you were on a street eating the food because of the set up of the chairs and tables. Also, it is quite spacious. It is also an open kitchen, you can get a glimpse of how they cook the food.
Overall, I would definitely be back here to get another bowl of laksa and try other...
Read moreI discovered this Mamak Stall accidentally when strolling around GuangFu South road in Taipei city. Since then, this restaurant has been my fixes for Malaysian food whenever I have to stay over weekends for business trip in Taipei. Visited numerous times in last 3 years, and decided to write a review as tributes to Mamak stall. I have tried Chicken Rice, Curry Laksa, Nasi Lemak, Penang Char Koay Teow & Roti Prata. Among which, I love the Nasi Lemak & Char Kway Teow most. The penang char Koay Teow was fried using duck egg (instead of chicken egg), eat it while shimmering hot from kitchen, I can said, it is 80-90% authenticity & close match to those I savored in Penang before. At peak hours, customers probably need to wait 10-15min outside the restaurant. The atmosphere reflected Malaysian feel which done with basic decor, rectangular foldable table & stool. You just come for the authenticity of the food, seated, place order, savor the food & go, and make place for others during the dining hours. One aspect that Mamak Stall has adopted the Japanese/Taiwanese service culture is that, they place a basket beneath the table to temporary keep our bag or shopping items (u won’t see this in the real Mamak stall in Malaysia). This Saturday evening, I dine alone in Taipei, but Mamak stall gave me lots of homely feel. And the “Selamat Datang” (welcome in malay language) greeting for sure brighten up my spirit especially under the influence of...
Read moreMy friend shared with me that we must visit this place since as a Malaysian I have not tried it before. We took a taxi over during lunch time and upon arrival the weather outside was scorching hot. Inside the place looks really clean and new. Everywhere was bright in colour just like how it feels when you step into one of the shops in Penang or Malacca. I told one of the waiter that I was from Malaysia and she gave me a look which was weird since the owner of the shop is from Malaysia. That definitely can be improved. Their menu features many varieties of Malaysian food. My friend ordered their beef curry with coconut rice and I ordered their must try dish: Roti Tisu. Roti Tisu means a type of bread that is as a thin as a piece of tissue. The condiments that goes along with roti Tisu were very different from Malaysia. The owner should consider removing the condensed milk since the roti Tisu itself is sweet and replace it with savory condiments like dhal or fish curry. 😋 We both ordered umbra juice. Not sweet so that’s good. It gave a refreshing feeling. But the ones in Malaysia has more kick with double Assam boi 🤩. Overall a place...
