Marco Polo Lounge — Restaurant in Da'an District

We booked for New Year’s Eve dinner for 2. Full payment for the menu was required in advance to confirm your table for NYE. We received in advance the menu through email which is a special 5-course meal only for the night. Menu cost NTD 8,360 for 2 persons. From the looks of the menu, it looked very promising and we were excited. Fast forward to the night, staff were a bit all over the place. We had to ask for the wine menu bec no one’s giving us anything. Food started to come in, we haven’t even finished with the plate, waiters are already asking if they can take our plates away. And it went on like this the whole night. Some parts, we are still on our last few bites of the plate and they were already coming to us with the next dish!! There were no at ease feeling, everything is in a rush and food were COLD! They have already probably lined up all the plates in advance and trying to be “efficient” on a busy night because the next door (lounge part) is also starting a set up so they were just rushing the dinner area. A fine dining experience is something you can enjoy every bite, a good pace between courses and the experience of it all. This is just incredibly awful and not worth the money. We paid 13,000++ NTD with the wine and everything. Just too much money for cold food, lousy service and unpleasant experience. Maybe it is different on regular nights, not sure. After many years being my safe bet for special drinks, I'm sad to see that MP Lounge is nothing like it used to.

We went for a few drinks on Christmas eve and the service was hideous. Were told to wait outside until a seat was found just to find out that the server completely forgot about us waiting. Then we were moved around different tables (4 times). Drinks were good but zero interaction on the waiter's side (we both speak Chinese too). When we tried to order second round, nobody bothered to bring menus, my friend went himself to get one at the bar. Finished drinks were never cleared and when we left at an almost empty bar, no-one even bothered to say bye. I counted around 5-6 people working there for a very small space. We were even served wrong drinks belonging to other patrons twice. Music was good but way too loud for a night when most people go for view and relaxing talk, the new MP Bar at Shangri-la looks more like a KTV bar than the cool, professional lounge bar it once was. Because I didn't have dinner, I ordered beef skewers and truffle fries. The texture of the beef skewers surprised me; I've never had skewers with such a strong gamey flavor, almost like being in a zoo. The truffle fries were decent, just your typical fries. If you're considering ordering the beef skewers, be prepared for the strong flavor.

I arrived on Friday night at 10 pm, and there was no server at the entrance. I had to enter and approach the counter myself. Once inside, I had to request service because the servers were consistently facing away from the seating area. They only attended to customers who approached them. The place wasn't crowded at the time.
