Anywhere in the western world this would be at most the standard of a bed & breakfast or a hostel. Under no circumstances is the category 3 stars. Sorry, normaly I don't rate so harshly but with a bit of luck you can get a room in the 5 star Grand Hotel for a few Taiwan dollars more and there the bathroom alone is as big as the entire room here. Positive: the location. But only the operators know why the reception in a *hotel is no longer staffed after 8:30 p.m. Even if the self-check-in worked, there is still an uneasy feeling of being left out in the rain until the door opens. Negative: where should I start? If 2 people arrive with luggage, one has to lie down on the bed while the other unpacks. But why would you want to unpack if there is only a tiny cupboard and little storage space. The hotel room door doesn't close fully automatically (at least there's a warning tone), the safe isn't screwed on, so much moisture forms after showering that the towels take hours to dry, bed & clothes have a slight basic humidity. The shower almost falls apart and sleeping with the window open is impossible because the air conditioning outside is constantly switching on and off and liters of water are raining down on the plastic roof from one of the upper floors (rooms 4 - 8). The first night I heard the person in the next room snoring loudly right next to my head. Since the shell was built, none of the rooms 4- 8 have ever received a ray of sunlight again. Even if the room prices in Taipei are completely too high and in no way match the actual cost of living: with a realitic rate of NT$ 1,350 (or €50 for 2024) I certainly wouldn't have criticized it so harshly. Oh yes, I skipped breakfast. For a 'cafe' it wasn't...
Read moreI booked a mini double and was upgraded to a quad. It had a double bed and a double decker bed. I just used the double bed. The room no was 9. It is at the end, next to the water dispenser and free tea and small snacks. I didn’t have to use the free bottled water provided in the room. I’m trying to reduce my disposable bottle useage. I just refill from the water dispenser. The room has hairdryer which is the size of travel hairdryer. It works well. The bath soap is nice. I didn’t try the shampoo and conditioner as I always bring my own. The room is clean. Room 9 has a glass shower door so the toilet and basin area does not get wet. There seems to be something not well with the sewage. There is a faint smell. I sprayed my citronella insect repellent to mask it. Sometimes there is a loud gashing sound of water. I think because someone flush. Fortunately there are only 9 rooms so not many people flush and it is quiet after midnight. The location is really quiet. Don’t hear traffic. So other sounds seem very loud. Room 9 is next to some stairs a d doors. So I can hear people coming and going. It gets a bit noisy after 7am. So if u are light sleeper you probably can’t sleep late. Breakfast starts at 8am and I ate the Taiwanese breakfast every morning. It’s really yummy. The best is the location. It’s at da am station which is intersection of 2 lines. It’s super easy to go night markets, CKS memorial, Sun yat Sun (change trains) Taipei 101. The exit from mrt is upward riding and the one with lift is exit 4 or 5 which is about 10 mins walk and quite a walk within the mrt. The mrt is not so suitable if you have difficulty walking or climbing stairs. I would...
