Selfish management endangers lives, especially kid’s lives.
This THANH KY location has an outdoor kitchen next to one of the most popular businesses in the YongKang area, a small corner shop that serves song yo bing (savory pancakes). This Vietnamese restaurant is split into two physical locations on either side of a wide quiet alley.
My kids and I have been lining up most Sunday afternoons for almost 10 years for the pancakes, but have only eaten at Thanh Ky once. There are usually few or no patrons waiting for the Vietnamese food, but dozens and dozens of patrons waiting for the song yo bing.
During this decade of patronage at the shop next door, I’ve seen the management of THANH KY try every possible method to avoid having a line for the great shop next door route safely down the quiet alley. Their business is right next to a hugely popular place, and the line of people next door just seems to be too much for the management of THANK KY handle.
Their selfish tactic in the last year or so has been to cajole and try to force patrons on the street to loop awkwardly backwards out onto the main YongKang St. The management of THANH KY consistently, despite reasoned debate with dozens of patrons that try to line up in the sensible and safe way in the alley, continues to use their mouths and heads to push adults and kids to stand on the road where taxis and scooters whiz by, in a deadly accident just waiting to happen.
There’s nothing wrong with the food at THANH KY. But I can’t imagine why anyone would patronize such an unapologetically...
Read moreThe restaurant appears to have expanded into a site across the street from where Google maps displays (on the same corner as the onion pancake vendor). That's the location I'm reviewing here.
I actually never got served anything so can't speak to the quality of the food. But the staff is not friendly at all if you can't speak Chinese...the waitress that seated me seemed to have quite a bad attitude from the start, rolling her eyes, essentially throwing the menu down on the table, and seemed completely annoyed with me for not being able to speak Mandarin. She actually just walked away and called to another waitress to see what I wanted, I guess cause she couldn't deal with me anymore...?
Anyway, after sitting with the menu and waiting about 15 minutes while the many waitresses were just standing around, chatting, looking for anything to do, and pretty much doing everything except showing any interest in asking what I'd like to order, I decided to get up and leave. It wasn't busy at all, and now I guess I can see why. Apparently they don't really...
Read moreEnded up dining here during our last few hours in Taiwan when we were short on cash, since this place takes credit card. Would not come back, based on the flavors of the food and non-existent/aloof service.
You order via QR code, but if your data sucks, you can order via pen + paper.
My group ordered: —Satay noodle soup - very standard sacha flavor, best value at 140 TWD compared to all other dishes. —Tom Yum noodle soup - very standard tom yum flavor. —“Lemongrass” chicken rice - no lemongrass flavor at all. Chicken was not grilled, rather boiled. Tasted like it was trying to be Hainan chicken rice, since it was served over a cabbage salad with nuoc cham. —A1 special pho - very salty broth, not much beef, not worth the cost. —Chicken salad appetizer - not much chicken, standard nuoc cham flavor. —Tapioca and red bean in coconut milk dessert - probably the dish I enjoyed most, worth it for 60 TWD but it is mostly jelly, almost...
