Chin Hua Jiao Taipei Guangfu South Branch — Restaurant in Da'an District

had a fantastic dining experience at Chin Hua Jiao (Guangfu South Branch)! Highly recommend making reservations in advance, as this popular spot tends to be fully booked often. Although the restaurant appears small from the outside, it’s actually very spacious with a beautifully decorated, cozy dining area that enhances the whole experience.

The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming, taking the time to explain the menu thoroughly, especially the signature hotpot broth, which is a must-try. They also have a sauce station where the sesame dipping sauce is a standout, and free-flow white rice adds great value. A unique highlight is their peppercorn beer and complimentary peppercorn oolong tea – both have a distinct taste that some will love and others may find an acquired taste, but it’s worth trying for the experience!

Service was prompt, with quick food servings, and the ingredients were fresh and top-quality. Note that dining time is limited to 2 hours per table, so it’s a good idea to plan your time and orders accordingly. Food was good, but service was subpar for a restaurant of this supposed quality. I’ve had far nicer and more attentive staff in cheap eateries.

We arrived a bit early for our reservation with a toddler and a senior, so I asked if we could be seated sooner, subject to availability of course. They still made us wait for half an hour, despite me counting at least 10 families ahead of us settling their bills and leaving the restaurant. Place hardly had any people that night and still they could not accommodate us.

Finally after the second time I followed up, the receptionist looked like she suddenly remembered us (despite us standing in front of her for half an hour), and sheepishly guided us to one of the dozen or so free tables. Despite having a toddler, nobody offered us a child seat. The wait staff could see our kid struggling with the seat but no attention was given. He even came by to tell the less than 2-year old kid to sit properly, but how? I swear the staff need more training.

Only reason why I’m still giving a decent review is because the food is indeed good and worth trying. I just think this branch in particularly needs some...

We were being rush for the whole time since we arrived. The worst experience is that my friends were late so I asked the waiter to go through the menu with us and want to order the set dinner for 4. The waiter was in such a rush and told me he will get the pot over first and disappeared. There are couple dishes you have option to upgrade or have 2-3 choices and you can pick one, so I was expecting he will come back to completed the order. INSTEAD someone just start taking over food and meats, I asked that you didn’t even give me choices or let me pick how do you get the orders in? They replied that they just went ahead and place order with popular items people usually picked. This is so not respectful!!!!! I insisted to change the meat to upgraded version. Then for rest of the time, we pretty much got no service. 1) we asked for ice cubes for drinks it didn’t come until we get the check. 2) we asked for duck blood and tofu each time they give us 2-3 pieces……..
