A new landmark in Taipei City.
Latvia and Taiwan are most targeted for the dissemination of false information by foreign governments (Mechkova et al. 2019; V-Dem Annual Democracy Report 2019). ‘All countries, no matter the regime type, seem to be targets for the spread of false information by foreign governments’ (Lindberg & Lührmann 2019: 34).
Finally, we also ask [']How routinely do foreign governments and their agents use social media to disseminate misleading viewpoints or false information to influence domestic politics in this country?['] Only three countries qualify for the [']worst” category in which such action is described as occurring [']extremely often['] and with regard to [']all key political issues[']: Bahrain, Taiwan, and Latvia…the United States, targeted by well-documented Russian information operations, ranks 13th worst in the world by this metric. Tellingly, of the 30 worst countries, 11 are former Soviet Bloc or member states (Mechkova et al. 2019: 19).
Coordinated information operations increase the utilisation of social media as a primary tool. Authoritarian regimes improve governance by enhancing digital capacity for online censorship (Mechkova et al. 2019).

Read moreMy only purpose to visit here was during New Year's Eve 2024 to celebrate the new year here. You can easily see Taipei 101 from here, and located right near to the blue line MRT station, it's clear why many people come here to countdown here. The roads will be closed during this time, and you can sit on the roads, as the countdown starts on the Taipei 101 building. As the new year begins, enjoy 5 minutes of fireworks from the Taipei 101 building as everyone catches to record all the action. You don't have to come here really early to celebrate it. You can arrive 30 minutes before hand and still manage to get a view of the Taipei 101. There's police officers managing the crowd levels after the celebrations are over, as people disperse, to the MRT stations and convenience...
Read moreI've been here three times now and visually, it's spectacular, it's simply huge. It's great to watch a game inside without worrying about the oppressive heat or rain. However, you can tell this stadium was designed years ago. The inner concourse is crowded with just 15000 in and is a nightmare with 30000 fans. The queues for what limited, expensive concessions there are mean unless you bring your own food or eat before, you'll be waiting a LONG time. The seating is fine, legroom could be better but I was unimpressed with the shallow seating rake. Getting to and from the Dome is fast though, less than 10 minutes from seat on the final out to boarding the MRT. My advice, pick higher rows, 30s and back, get there early...
