arTree Hotel offers a convenient location near Taipei Arena MRT (5 mins walk away from Exit 4), with food options like a 7-11 convenience store opposite and a canteen in the same building. The hotel provides good value for money with complimentary mini-bars and free drinks in common areas. However, my experience with the hotel’s service (esp. their reservations team) and coordination left much to be desired, especially for a special event.
I contacted the hotel a month in advance for help planning a surprise proposal, requesting room decoration assistance and a specific room theme to match my decor. While they confirmed they could help with decorations for a nominal fee, they also made it clear I would need to bring the decorations myself, which added unnecessary hassle and costs (i.e. purchasing, flying the decors at your own cost, and to research and comply with flight requirements). Unfortunately, despite following up with the reservations team, I received no further details on the fees.
Upon arrival, I was disappointed to learn that my request hadn’t been logged, and when I attempted to resolve it, I was met with excuses and a lack of empathy from the staff. The reservations team informed me that, due to the New Year holiday season, they couldn’t assist with the decorations, despite previously agreeing to do so (with a nominal fee). What was even more frustrating was their instruction that I would have to prepare the decorations for them in advance (i.e. purchasing additional check-in weight and figuring out the flying requirements to get these decorations over) and only informing that they were unable to do so after arrival in Taipei and checking-in with the hotel. They also imposed an unexpected "cleaning fee" if I went ahead with my plans, which had never been mentioned before.
As a result, I had to scramble to adjust my proposal, which ultimately impacted the experience (not to mention the unnecessary stress of having to adjust major plans on the trip with little help or info. in a foreign land). While arTree Hotel may be fine for a short stay in Taipei, I would not recommend it for events or special occasions. The lack of coordination between the reservations team and the hotel staff, along with the lack of customer service, made it a far less enjoyable experience than I had hoped for. If you're looking for a basic, no-frills place to stay, this hotel may still be a decent option, but not for anything beyond that. (p.s. during peak periods, the hotel prices could also increase significantly - my room charges was almost doubled due to the New Year...
Read moreThe best attribute of this hotel is the staff, all of whom were so friendly and very helpful. The decor is very unique. The theme throughout is trees, perhaps in a rain forest setting, as it has a very dim, subdued amount of light with a lot of black walls in the lobby and public areas. Some would like that, others would not. I prefer a lot of windows and a bright, cheery atmosphere. The design of the room had the windows just above the toilet and bathtub. I found myself keeping the blinds closed most of the time for privacy. I’ve never seen a room with the windows only in the bathroom area. The furniture in the rooms and throughout the hotel was of tree trunks and woodsy decor; interesting but not very comfortable or functional. The breakfast buffet was not up to the standard to which I am accustomed in 4 and 5 Star hotels in Asia. While it appears there is a wide selection, and several stations, I found my plate to be empty, and kept returning to my table with little bits of food. No pastry selection at all, just store-bought bread. Fruit selection was limited and not fresh, and not appealing visually. The hotel was very clean, and the staff very attentive. I just think in trying to be unique, they’re missing the basics of a 4 to 5 star hotel; great atmosphere and great food. I think a review of the entire theme should take place, because it could be a much greater hotel with great staff...

During my stay in Taipei the last month, I stayed at multiple hotels and many of them claimed their were 4 stars but arTree is a true 4 star hotel that is supposedly a 3 star hotel!?
Check in lobby is on the fourth floor but you’re greeted by the door and the doorman kindly takes you to the lobby. He is always friendly and professional.
Checkin was flawless. We arrived an hour early and there was no fuss (unlike 洛基南京館 who would charge you 300 NTD for each hour checked in early).
The entire hotel is chic! The lobby feels like an art gallery, so airy and spacey. The room is huge with a large window and a huge bathroom to boot. LOVE the tub and the bath salts that come with it. Mini fridge is stocked with free drinks and BEER! (Wat?!)
The beds are so comfy and the seating area in the deluxe room is the perfect touch.
The hotel is located within a 7 minute walk of the Taipei arena MRT station and within minutes of all kinds of eateries and restaurants.
The only complaint I have about the hotel is it’s missing coin laundry services. The coin laundry places nearby aren’t nice and I ended up packing up dirty laundry.. not sure what I’d do if I stayed there more...
