牛津 Oxford — Restaurant in Kaohsiung

As a visitor to Kaohsiung it is unfortunate for me that another opportunity to return to “Oxford”（牛津) and enjoy the company of the staff, owner, and customers has been kiboshed by that virus! I never thought it would get through Taiwan’s excellent defences. Politics, less than honest disclosures, and complacency have a lot to answer for, particularly politics.

The menu is a mix of English, European, USA American and of course Chinese. I had a burger worthy of the title homemade; good flavours, good texture, and much better than most home cooked burgers

A possible highlight for some is the music selection from the 60s, 70s, 80s and maybe 90s. When was Oasis’ Wonderwall?

It’s quite bizarre to travel halfway round the world and think “I’ve been in much worse pubs than this in the UK”; a backhanded compliment, but a heartfelt compliment nonetheless.

I almost forgot - the staple of a good English pub is good beer. They’ve plenty of good beer, just not English. PS Guinness is...

Luka is the owner of this establishment. I had the pleasure of taking to her and getting to know her and her staff. They have great beers on tap with great free bar snacks for a reasonable price. The menu caters to the American taste plus the local Asian tastes included. This is something that I haven’t seen at any other bar. Kudos to this bar for being different and standing out...
