Update - The food quality has improved greatly since our last visit. The steaks were very well prepared and the overall experience was very positive.
Steakhouse - Two parts to this review: Food quality and preparation (1 out 5) - Very low quality meats with lots of tendons and muscles. The NY Strip tasted like rubber, filled with fat. The lobster was undercooked and partially raw. The meats (New York Strip and Ribeye) came our medium rare even though we ordered medium well. The food came out very slowly (30+ minutes) and already cold. Service Attitude (4 out of 5) - the manager apologized several times and offered to replace the steaks and lobster, and took the dishes with problems out of the bill. The waiters were very attentive and tried to help the best they could out of a very awkward situation.
The bottom line is that even though the food was terrible, the people there showed a true intention to improve and didn't try to make excuses. As long as they remain that way, there is hope for this restaurant for...
Read moreI have had many meals from Jack Brothers Taichung and found it to offer excellent value for money. I was very happy to recommend the place to others.
Unfortunately, this review is minus 1 star because of my most recent visit - the flat iron steak has been changed.
It's the same price (580NT for 8oz; set meal) as it was for 6oz previously. This tells me that the meat quality is reduced, for a gain in quantity.
That's not a good change for me! Get the old 9oz (now it's 12oz) bigger variety if you want more meat! I'd rather eat less, but more delicious steak....
The other sides are very good. No problems there.
Service is good and not long to wait.
All in all - a great place. But I really hope they can change the steak back to the old type. I'm hoping it was a one-off lower quality time but I'm suspicious of the significant weight increase...
I'm going to give it one more try and if I feel the same, that will be my last - there's plenty of good competition to...
Read moreIt's hard to understand how this restaurant can do business in a gourmet city like Taichung. The food is very mediocre without any imagination or creativity and the prices are too high. The ribs were overcooked and dry, the Caesar salad was small and boring, the coleslaw with the steak could be from KFC, and the mashed potatoes had no sauce or gravy. The only enjoyable dish was the prawns sauteed with finely chopped garlic.
It's American fast food in a diner setting and the prices are much too high for the quality of the food. With so many restaurants doing similar dishes with better quality and lower prices in this city, this restaurant could and should...
