VVG Food Play — Restaurant in Taichung

Overall disappointed. We had high expectation for this place. Given that this is such a great location, with "potentially" great view, they did not take advantage of it. The food is not bad, but also not impressive. The steak is tender but lack the crispiness outside and the sauce is terrible. The service is not professional, not at the level you would expect to see at a nice restaurant. The interior design was a disappointment, the lighting could be way better. They use only bright white light, no romantic vibe at all, and the light is so bright near the window, you cannot see the view outside, only reflection of yourself (what a waste for the massive windows and view). You could also see the restaurant lack a lot of detail you would normally expect from an expensive restaurant, for example no table cloth and cheap vase... Went there for dinner last night. Amazing options for salads, including wildrice, couscous...etc not just lame caesar salad from typical non authetic Italian places here. Tomato soup, pumpkin soup that you can still taste the original produce and it's healthy. Seafood platter is also great! The different curries were so good and tasted authetic you can tell from the colour and texture! Esp spicy yellow curry with chicken. Cheese & cured meat are also authentic and very tasty. Juices are fresh, without added sugar you can tell by the colour, i love the guava one! Also enjoyed their cheesecake and fresh fruits for dessert. Great...

Impressive looking restaurant. But the first thing that the waitress told us when we entered was “there’s a $350NTD minimum spend per head.” There’s no greeting or offer for assistance, just a cold blunt “can you accept the $350 per head minimum spend.” On a seperate occasion, when we went to the restaurant, we were told right when we walked towards the counter that they’re fully booked. The restaurant looked nearly empty... looking at the previous negative reviews, this seems like a common occurrence. Perhaps they’re understaffed for such a large restaurant?...
