Having been to several omasake experiences, the recent visit fell below expectations. Never had I met a senior chef who didn't smile and engage customers with a stern face. There are even more veteran and experienced chefs whom I have met in Asia and all of them would be friendly.
Omakase is about meaningful rapport and exchange between chefs and customers while enjoying high quality. Customers don't pay a premium to receive cold expressions. Food-wise, not as tasty as it could be. Perhaps the atmosphere and chef's attitude have a big part at ruining the whole culinary experience.
