I had a really good experience the first time and the second time here on May/8th. The food was amazing, I ordered bolognese pasta and prochinni truffle panini. I have to say the panini is one of the best panini I’ve had. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the authentic Italian food there a lot. After the second time I visited, I got a text message from them saying that you get a free desert before May/23rd. So I was very excited to take my wife there for lunch on Sunday, May/10th. We ordered the same dishes and a ice latte. I was extremely disappointed with the food quality especially on the panini, it’s just doesn’t taste anywhere same as the one I just had on Friday.....the pasta was okay but the portion was clearly not the same. I’m not sure if they serve differently on the week days as compared to the weekend. Before we ordered we were thinking about getting one more dish but once these two dishes were served, my wife already looked and decided to go somewhere else later. Lastly, about free desert, I had to go around and find someone to assist me to order..... the fact is you don’t even have a choice on the desert, baba cake is only desert you can get, the staff did a very poor job on explaining what it was.....we got it, open the lid and ate ...... and a very very strong liquor taste came in to our mouth.....and we just realized the desert was soak in rum, my wife is 9 months pregnant and have not consumed any alcohol since. And the shot stroke her pretty hard.....immediately she doesn’t feel well due to the poor introduction on the baba cake ...... I am not looking for superb service here obviously but something like this they got to pay more attention to.... at least let us know there is alcohol in it....
And the ice latte...
Read moreSandwhiches were too salty. And they took forever to come out.. about an hour. The restaurant was not crowded when we went. As the previous reviewer pointed out.... service is bad and the waiters need more training.
*reply to the response from the owner Let me clarify. I have ordered your take out panini sandwhiches before, quite a few times actually and they were very good. I have even told friends about this place. Last time i ordered from Gusto was about 10-12 months ago.
Today was the first time dining at the restaurant and we were thoroughly disappointed. We didnt even finish the sandwhiches because they were very salty. Let me assure you, as a frequent foodie traveler to Italy/France and having tried your food a numerous times, today's paninis were not a "subjective taste bud feeling". It was simply too f*ckin salty. Normally in America, i would bring this up to the waiter right away. But our server had an attitude when we mentioned that we waited 1 hour for the sandwhiches to come out. so needless to say, we didn't follow up with the salty sandwhiches. Service just wasn't there. We had to get everything ourselves, napkins, glasses,..etc. Worst part - still get a 10% service charge. I rather pay 20% for good service which i do every time in America. sometimes even more if service was exceptional.
We noticed that there were only 2 people making food for the entire lunch crowd and take out orders. Maybe quality was lost amid all the chaos?
I dont know what happened. But based on today's experience quality has gone down. My friend also felt the same. We left feeling hungry and unsatisfied. We ended up getting a 2nd...
Read moretucked away near a fruit market (though it also smelt like fish), the taxi driver of ours did not know where to drop us off despite our directions to this secret italian gem. but once you find it, you've struck gold.
i had my first ever charcuterie board at gusto's today. it was an impressive ensemble of cheeses, crackers, processed meats, fresh and dried tomatoes, olives, pickles, and more. the walls of gusto's were stacked to the ceiling with imported goods. much of what i was served was made with the surrounding ingredients on the racks. imported wine, more cheeses, and beautifully saturated processed meats engulfed me as i lost track of the luring foods around me and before me. after the "appetizer" (i ate so much of the charcuterie board i was worried i would not have room for the entres), the friendly waiter brought us baked eggplants covered with parmesan and then another two dishes of baked pasta. finally, to securely tip me over with a food coma -- but satisfyingly so -- i had a slice of their chocolate salami.
if you ever get a chance to go to...
