STONE espresso bar & coffee roaster — Restaurant in Taipei

Finally came back to this café after years — so glad I did!

Last time I had their Espresso Con Panna, which is rare in Taipei, and it was so memorable. This time I tried a hot cappuccino (they offer both regular and old-school thick foam styles). I went with the regular one — bold and full-bodied, with a deep richness that cuts through the milk perfectly. Smooth and well-balanced with no bitter aftertaste. Loved it.

Tried the earl grey tea cake too — a bit sweet and the tea flavor was subtle, but the fluffy, slightly crumbly texture made it easy to enjoy with coffee. I arrived just as they opened and the place filled up fast with locals and tourists.

The espresso based drinks and cakes here are both really great. I had the cappuccino and Madeline type of cake on my visit and I really enjoyed both. The cake was freshly baked, warm and really delicious. The cappuccino I had a nice depth from the espresso and lacked any bitterness.

Not worth the wait or the hassle if you are a coffee connoisseur. This is a cash only establishment. Not sure why considering there are no signs or prior warnings. We ordered two separate single origin one and one which is an espresso and a piccolo. The panama Geisha and the Ethiopian were both under extracted. The milk drinks were sub par. Only redeeming thing was the basque cheesecake we ordered. There are enough good coffee shops around to skip this one. Moonshine, Folks, and Rufous are all better picks. Lastly, cash only in this day and age? Even the stalls in the night markets accept more forms of payment...
