Kashoku — Restaurant in Taipei

This was a fantastic little spot that I found from a recommendation of the staff of several other bars.

Enter the tasting room upstairs and take the flight of stairs down. You’ll enter Kashoku which is unmistakably Japanese in style. The long bar stretches the length of the room in the narrow space.

There is no menu and so the first order of business is to discuss drink preferences with the staff. After some simple questions the bartender seemed satisfied and started making our drinks. The result: an incredibly unique cocktail with with fernet hunter in it’s base. I really enjoyed the first cocktail and I asked for a second, and it too was just as impressive (an interesting non-sour style use of Midori).

The atmosphere here is very laid-back and quieter, soft music from the record player fills the space. The staff is warm and friendly — happy to match your request with something interesting from behind the bar. When we were there around 1am there was a mix of locals and tourists. It's a very nice place for people who are serious about Japanese style cocktails. The owner and bartender really put a lot into making good drinks. Regarding the negative reviews: it's their store and they can operate according to their rules, such as no more than 4 people, no food, everyone have to drink, etc. That's how they built an unique ambiance in this bar. Very good cocktail. It's one of the best in Taipei. If you can name it, they can make it. Sometimes if you don't know the name but describe the taste, they can come close or hit it out of the ball park with their own take on the drink.

This place is a hidden gem , very small only 12 seats. Go there as soon as they open at 8 pm. Or else they would be fully booked...
