We came at 11pm to try our luck after a late flight. They were about to close early for the day, and we were ready to find someplace else. But they were so hospitable and insisted on reopening for us, after learning that we were only in Taoyuan for one night. Wonderful hosts and a beautiful rustic speakeasy-style restaurant. They even turned on music for us to add to the vibes! Top service.
As for the food: I’m not too familiar with Hakka cuisine, so I don’t have a good basis of comparison. Other reviews are right in that the flavours can be stronger than elsewhere in Taiwan. But we enjoyed it all massively, the dishes went well with rice (we even had 2 extra bowls of rice 😛). Especially the fried sweet and sour pork - total banger 10/10.
