Easily the worst bar I've been to in Taiwan. Friends booked a large group for a New Year's eve celebration. Price gouging on new year's eve is to be expected, but this was next level.
Price increased by 20% a few days before new year's eve, even though we booked many weeks in advance. At this point it was too late to find somewhere else so we had no choice but to accept it. Extremely limited drink options from the drink coupons. 3 cocktails, 1 non alcoholic cocktail, beer, and vodka shots were the only things that could be chosen. I'm not too picky about cocktails in general, but didn't like the taste of any of the options being offered. Wouldn't surprise me if they were premixed or something. They didn't have actual names like normal cocktails, just description of the fruit/flavor and a alcohol%. No idea if they are drinks that are normally on the menu or not. Probably special swill for New Year's Eve only. Didn't feel like they used fresh ingredients, but who knows. At least the beer was decent. Food offered was generic fried appetizers that were fine, and japanese oden. Didn't try the oden, but others said it was pretty 'meh' and all of the subsequent orders were for the fried appetizers. Shots came in these small plastic mini-cups. When we inquired about the feasibility of using actual shot glasses like a real bar, we got some lame excuse about not having enough glasses and concern that glasses would get broken as people got drunker !?! Personally I think they were just lazy and didn't want to wash them. Of course we then noticed that other tables were using actual shotglasses, and got some lame excuse from the waitress about how they were friends of theirs or something. The seating area we were given was pretty cramped. When we made the original reservation we were under the impression that the space we got would be much larger. Not sure if there was miscommunication or what. The area we were in was a 2nd bar on the 2nd floor, but it was clearly not being used since that area was used to house miscellaneous junk.
I'm perfectly fine with a restaurant/bar wanting to make a little extra money on a holiday, but there should be a minimum standard of service/food/drinks, and this bar failed the test in every category. Just use the standard menu with a 10% markup, or have a high minimum order amount. Don't come out with a inferior 'special' menu and annoy your customers with lame excuses and...
