Taihu Driftwood - Ximen — Restaurant in Wanhua District

Good vibe, okay service, terrible craft beer and salty food.

I got the chili chips which were peanuts and these weird chili crackers. I thought they were going to be chili potato chips. I don't mind chili's, but these were hard and tasted strange.

The french fries were overly salty. WAY too much salt. They crispy-ness of the fries were great but the salt made it hard to eat.

Tried the 9-5 pilsener, it tasted like Taiwan Beer but they directly added water. I'm not saying it's the bar's fault, but a good bar would be more selective about their beers on taps.

Then had the mocha stout craft. Wow. One of the most undrinkable beverages I've ever had. It was the mocha stout that started with an "X". The name was "Xochitul" or something. Really really bad.

The bar has a great vibe and is cozy. But I think they rushed their craft beer selection. I've tried a lot of different beers and these were some of the worst.

The prices for draft/bottled beers ranged from 200NTD-300NTD. It's pretty high.

Definitely worth a visit! The staff were able to help us out a bit in English and made some great recommendations. I loved the Taihu Lychee Fruity Ale - lightly sweet with a lingering, subtle lychee flavor. My partner got the Taihu IPA, which was a bit bitter for his taste.

We also got their truffle fries, which we loved. They came out warm and crispy, fluffy on the inside. They're good with a slight truffle flavor, but not super salty, so just be aware. I can't place the flavor of the dip, but it makes me think of a super super light sour cream...

The ambiance is chill with music playing at a nice level, and the decor is a mix of beachside driftwood and tiger chic. Food took forever! We ordered three dishes and had to leave without getting one of them. The service was very slow. The place was crowded, food is good, and drinks too. The place looks cozy, clean, and with a good atmosphere to have something to drink and chat with friends. The staff is friendly and helpful. I guess that if you get to go there when there are not many people you might get a fast enough service. However, we did not have a good experience if we consider how fast they serve you food. And we did not even order complicated dishes, we asked for three different types of fries and cheese dishes. We were there two hours+ and we had to leave without getting the third one.
