Worth the Wait – Zhouji Meat Porridge, Taipei

This spot is all about the crispy pork, porridge, chicken, and yep… intestines. And let me tell you—it totally lives up to the hype.

We went early in the morning, and there was already a line. Not crazy long, but enough to know the food must be good. And yeah, it was so worth the wait.

The restaurant itself is small—maybe 6 or 7 tables—and you'll likely end up sharing your table with other hungry folks. It’s got that old-school charm. Nothing fancy, just good vibes and great food. Even though it’s an older place, it’s clean and well-kept.

Now the food… wow. I went in with pretty high expectations, and it still managed to blow me away. The crispy pork? One of the best I’ve ever had. And I’m from Thailand—I’ve had a lot of crispy pork in my life. This one easily makes it to the top of the list. The porridge was comforting and full of flavor, and the other dishes were just as solid.

I want to share my experience. I visited this restaurant for the first time during my first trip to Taiwan. There were two of us dining. At first, we were seated at a table meant for two people on each side. After ordering, we waited for our food. Before it arrived, the staff asked us to sit on the same side so they could seat another customer at our table. I did that because that's how I could handle my bag even if other customers put their bags on empty chairs.

I don’t mind sharing tables with others, but I wondered why other tables with four seats allowed only two people while we had to move. I assumed it was because we hadn’t started eating yet. However, I felt uneasy about the possibility of the new person coughing, sneezing, or accidentally splashing food onto my meal. Fortunately, the person who joined was polite, and no issues arose.

The real problem came later. After they left, the staff didn’t clean the table properly before seating another customer. The new diner accidentally threw a used tissue onto the uncleaned plate. Some of the tissue scraps landed on the crispy pork belly I was still eating, making it impossible for me to continue.

Although the tissue was removed, the incident showed the restaurant's poor management. I don’t blame the other customer, but the lack of proper service ruined my experience. I won’t be returning. Although the taste of the food is acceptable, there are still many other delicious restaurants for you to choose from in Taiwan.

The star of this restaurant is the crispy pork belly. It has this light crispy coating and a juicy flavorful tender interior. They managed to maintain the juiciness of the pork. It is served with a chili soybean bean paste sauce. The pork is a must.
