Thai Town Cuisine - Taipei Xinyi Mitsukoshi Store — Restaurant in Xinyi District

Thai Town is a long-standing chain restaurant with over 30 years of history, and it's been one of my go-to spots in Taiwan. However, my recent visit to the branch located within Taipei Xinyi Mitsukoshi left me a bit disappointed.

Situated within a department store, the restaurant isn't very spacious, accommodating approximately 50 diners (a rough estimate). The seating arrangement is quite tight, with tables positioned close together, making it easy to overhear conversations from neighboring tables. However, there are three individual booths located outside of the restaurant, providing private dining space for two diners each. While these booths offer some privacy, being located in the hallway may be uncomfortable for some patrons.

As for the food, both the Thai rice and red quinoa rice were disappointingly soggy, not complementing the curry dishes well. While the Thai raw shrimp maintained its usual quality, other dishes like the water spinach with shrimp paste, green curry, and grilled pork with Thai dip were overly spiced compared to my past experiences at other Thai Town branches. For those who prefer milder flavors, I would recommend exploring other dining options.

We love this place because its location and good quality.

The team is always young and not always doing an excellent job. However, their spirit is good and manager is courteous to resolve any issues that may arise.

We met good waiters and managers there with good food. Some people criticize their food is not authentic Thai. But, hey, this is Taiwan, as long as people like it, moon shrimp cake and pork are popular, who says you have to be Thai food to be authentic? People like it and you offer what people like instead of forcing people to accept the so-called “authentic” Thai food and people choose other places to go?

We have eaten at various locations of this chain quite a few times. Reasonably good Thai/Chinese food, but not particularly authentic as far as Thai food is concerned. There are better Thai choices, but this chain is consistent and has some good menu choices. I happen to prefer Very Thai, though. The green curry chicken is quite good however, and the spicy eggplant is wonderful. Shrimp cakes are also a good choice for an appetizer. We like the spicy beef stir fry, but when we ordered this, they brought pork instead, and it took a long time to get the correct replacement. So, I would call the service uneven at...
