Unbelievable food here. It's definitely a must eat restaurant if you are in this area. Try to book in advance if you can. We didn't book and it was fully occupied and booked out when we came. Just leave your phone number and they will message you if a table clears up by no shows.
We were lucky and managed to get a table later that night. Ordered 5 dishes and totally enjoyed them all. Superlatives for three of them. Do not, I repeat, do not miss the prawn pineapple dish. I have honestly never tasted a pineapple cooked this way. Lightly battered, then fried, you actually get a light crunchy layer before biting into the soft sweet juicy interior. Prefect. To me, it's so good that it taste better than the prawn.
The pork liver is another not to be missed dish. Even if you don't like offals, give it a try. Superbly marinated and flavoured, it's cooked perfectly, no oozing blood from undercooked liver and soft tender consistency of a perfectly cooked liver.
As for the pork rib with dates, lip smacking. Thick sticky gravy with a perfectly balanced sweet and salty flavour. Well cooked tender meat and soft delicious dates. Nothing more to say.
I didn't find the oyster omelet or the dark sauce chicken astounding. They are delicious, don't get me wrong. But nothing near the earlier dishes.
As for the crab glutinous rice, tasty and filling. Please make sure you have enough members in your group. And avoid ordering too much white rice. I recommend you try it once. Whether it's your kind of taste will depend on your palate.
If they provide the complimentary mua chee / mochi dessert, do not decline it. It is superb and an excellently end to the meal.
In the end, this is a great restaurant to have an incredible meal. I will definitely come again if I...
Read moreMany people’s childhood memories must have been made here. This can’t be a review of the legendary Taiwanese Cuisine specialist because the menu is vast and am allergic to some of their main ingredients so I can’t taste many of their signature dishes. Nonetheless, I got a glimpse of how the empire grown from 1977 with one restaurant to 22 restaurants with its original earning one Michelin star year after year. I could taste the sincerity and great technique perfected in decades. The wait staff was patiently helping us build a balanced lunch order. My faves from our humble lunch were their green grapes pickle (only TWD 90) and their Turnip Pancake. One shan’t miss their ALMOND TOFU (consistency was heavenly! A bit gelatinous like mochi but not quite chewy, so delicate yet full of flavors). Their hot almond milk soup with cold you tiao also stuffs that would make you come back for years. Peanut mochis drew all three into perfect harmony of taste in our mouths. Shin Yeh is the place that if I live there I could go to with my family at least...

We ordered quite a few dish to try and all of them were delicious. We ordered crispy pork, pan fried pork liver (one of their staple menu), braised pork intestines with preserved vegetables, grandma recipe noodle soup with pork, tofu with vegetables. And they also gave us complimentary mochi with peanut coating as a dessert.
The staff are knowledgeable and friendly but very limited english. With the locations and its popularity, I think they should train their staff with better English. But overall they can guide us through the menu and offer some recommendations.
