Humble House has recently changed into a "Curio Collection by Hilton" hotel and the staffs are still getting used to the changes, but they tried very hard to make every guests feel welcomed. The housekeeping staffs were extremely polite and I had not gotten so many morning greetings for a while. ||The check in experience was not perfect. I arrived at 2:30pm but the rooms still needed inspection. The agent completed the check in process, took care of my bags, gave me a welcome drink coupon, personally escorted me to the coffee bar/shop next door, and told me that he would return with my key once the inspection was done. Unfortunately he never returned. ||The room itself was okay. The basic room was on the small side, and as a Hilton Honors Gold member, I was upgraded to a room with a view of the "101," which was nice. The rooms were stylish and there was even remote charging pad. The bathroom was on the small side and I was not sure why they even had to put in a bathtub. I would rather they use the space for larger faucet. ||Fitness center was on the 8th floor and you did not need to go through the reception at 7th floor. The fitness center was on the small side and was busy especially in the morning hours. They have yoga mats but if you did not have spaces for yoga area, those mats were meaningless. There was only one elliptical machine too. Given the amount of empty space at the 7th floor reception area, maybe they can find a way to add a yoga/stretching room. ||As a Hilton Gold member, I was given a choice of points or breakfast. I chose breakfast and it was actually pretty good. The restaurant never got super busy, but the staffs were on the inexperienced and borderline rude side. Only the egg chef was friendly. The waiters/waitresses really did not know what they were doing. They asked if I wanted tea or coffee, but never delivered them. ||I will return to the hotel in mid-November and hope the experience will improve. Hilton elite members need to be lower their expectations. If you want a typical US Hilton room, I will pay for a larger room/Premier room. ||The hotel definitely puts in lots of efforts for the switch to Hilton but still needs some times to adjust to expectations from non-Asian Hilton elite members. Hopefully my November stay with family will go smoother. ||PS. The hotel is always busy so don't expect late checkout or...
Read moreThis hotels policies are UNACCEPTABLE. They limit air conditioning to 75 degrees Fahrenheit, in a country with tropical levels of humidity. This is not a 5 start hotel, it’s a 1 star hotel. Even a Motel 6 or Ramada motel in the USA does not limit air conditioning.
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, UNACCEPTABLE.
Also when we came into the room their were dirty tissues on the floor and the lamp in the bedroom is broken on arrival. I have never in my life stayed at a hotel less accommodating than this one. This is a poverty hotel with a Gucci belt.
Shame on management, shame on Hilton. I expected so much better from an American company. Disgusting, they should give us a refund for their despicable stinginess. OUTRAGEOUS. We were loyal customers, and would stay in this hotel every time we (my family) come to Taipei. When we get back to NYC we will make sure to sound the alarm and make sure everyone knows to STAY AWAY from this dump.
The only redeeming factor about this hotel is it’s location. I am personally offended by the conduct of this hotels management and truly befuddled by their complete incompetence and frankly class-A stupidity.
Shame on you!
Update 1250 AM 3/29: because this hotel refuses to leave AC on in the rooms and refuses to actually have a reasonable AC temp in the room. Our entire hotel room smells like piss. This place is disgusting.
1:45 AM: we got moved to a different room, which is hypoallergenic. It’s a lot better but still extremely humid. Hotel claimed that the “damp” smell (interesting way to pronounce piss but that’s just me) is from rain? Is this a joke? LOL if a 5 start hotel said that in the US I can’t even imagine what would happen.
But on the bright side I finally understand why its called humble house. It’s meant to humble people who book expensive hotel rooms by making them not have AC and to sleep with piss smell. Perfect simulation of living on the street! Well done humble house! I certainly got to experience a very humble existence…
————— April 3rd: I am changing my review to 4 stars since the hotel made right on the situation. They apologized and upgraded us to a suite.
Additionally during the over 7 magnitude earthquake today the hotel felt so safe and room service was still operational. I have to applaud the hotel for this. Despite all the issues at first safety comes first and the fact we felt safe here warrants at...
