This is a newer Italian restaurant with a variety of excellent pasta dishes at a reasonable price. We did not have their meat dishes, so I won’t comment on those. The menu is fairly limited, but it’s clear that this ensures they can produce consistent quality food and I’m glad that they’ve kept their narrow focus.
Let’s start with the appetizer. We ordered the raw beef and the burrata (not on the regular menu). The burrata is excellent quality, but only available on certain days when they can get it fresh. Call ahead if you want to order this dish!
The beef was above average, but thicker than regular carpaccio and probably too heavy for an appetizer unless you are sharing with 3 or more people.
Next, the pasta. The mushroom risotto is outstanding. Although many restaurants in Taipei offer a similar dish, this place makes a much better version with stronger flavor, not too salty, and also perfectly al dente. Of all of the dishes we had that night, this one was the most memorable and this alone is reason to return multiple times.
Their pork ragout pappardelle is good, but the flavor was mild; the sauce was more like shredded pork mixed with tomato. Perhaps if the mixture had been stewed longer, there would be a stronger fusion of sauce and meat to really bring out the meaty flavor.
They have an excellent tiramisu, as other reviewers have said, and my favorite part of it was the mascarpone cheese. Many times cheap Italian restaurants will use cream or other substitutes in their tiramisu, which is not nearly as good. Their other dessert, the chocolate torte, is nice as well, but the lemon ice cream that comes with it would be better as vanilla, in my opinion. The lemon and chocolate flavors do not mix well. The lemon ice cream could be its own dessert item.
Quality of service was very good, and our waiter was attentive to make sure we were enjoying each course. Since this was our second time at the restaurant, the manager remembered us and made sure that our experience was memorable. We were offered a choice of digestifs at the end of the meal, which was a nice personal touch.
If there is one thing that I really appreciate besides the food, it’s that the team at La Mole is dedicated to trying new ideas and testing new dishes or modified recipes with their returning customers so that they always have a...
Read moreAfter living in Taipei for five years, I finally found a place to fulfill my Italian food cravings.
And when I say Italian, I don't mean Olive Garden or Romanos. I mean the kind of food that my buddy Chris' Dad used to make when I came over on Sundays.
I've been to La Mole twice since they opened and both visits were spectacular.
I've developed an addiction to their rissottos, as the chef is very creative with his sauces. I'm struggling to find the right words to describe what makes a great risotto, but I would describe it as a balance between creamy and firm as well as cheesyness and the flavor of the stock.
I'm also a big fan of their carpaccio and the chicken liver spread as well. Man, I'm getting so hungry writing this review...
And don't forget to leave room for dessert. I've had their pudding, tiramisu and chocolate cake. (I love my desserts as long as they are not too sweet) And they were all delicious. My favorite was their rum less multi-layered Tiramisu with a sponge cake that was soft and yet still gave the slightest resistance as you cut into it with your spoon.
The wait staff is excellent and knowledgeable about the food. I felt guilty but I couldn't resist peppering them with questions about each dish.
Overall, I would describe La Mole as a warm and inviting place that you take close family and friends when you don't just want to eat, you want to bond and connect. As is the...
Read moreA very nice place with great service and even better food/wine Food comes very fast which is nice They also have quite a few wine options that you can choose from $220 for a cup Introductions will be made by servers as well They have many options not on the menu that is different each day For two people, we Got the pork terrine and farmers salad for the appetizer Lamb chops and rigatoni pasta with truffle
The pork terrine was mediocre Didn’t feel anything special about it The sauce was nice though 2/5
The farmers salad came was a lot of different kinds of vegetables Delicious start to the meal 4/5
Lamb chomps we chose to eat it medium rare Absolutely delicious The perfect amount of tender and flavor However we think choosing it cooked medium would make it even better Must order 5/5
Rigatoni Cream Truffle are homemade and very nicely done However the noodles were very slightly too well done (too soft) They were not perfectly Italian style But the flavor was creamy and absolutely delicious with the touch of truffle flakes Strongly recommend as well 5/5
We wanted to try their desserts as well but did not have the stomach as we were so full! Two appetizers and two entrees is the perfect amount. Will definitely come back again to try everything else on the menu!
Ps. If you want the tiramisu dessert, you must inform them a few days beforehand as they...
