This place used to be a 4-star spot, and now it's a shaky 2 -- due to extreme dried and chewy chicken, and awful services and dining environment.
I've been to this place for quite many times -- before and after it relocated -- as I've always loved Hainan chicken. Unfortunately I've had my worst experience yet with this restaurant during my most recent visit. Here's why.
Quality of Food: While the Chicken and Rice (雞肉快餐) I ordered was not the more expensive Chicken and Rice Combo (雞肉個人套餐)as I didn't need the soup, veggies, and the boiler-plate dessert, I've never had such dried and chewy "Hainan" chicken ever. I wondered how it could live up to the title "Hainan" while my teeth were struggling with the chicken in my mouth, and found myself missing, pathetically, the frozen chicken breast sold in 7-11's after my workout sessions. Frankly, it's a betrayal to my trust. Hygiene and Services: My partner waited for nearly 30 mins (the order taken and printed by 13:14 and food served at around 13:43) for her Curry Veggie Combo. Nobody bothered to check our status and questioned why we're constantly looking up, until we made official complaints, twice. And obviously, staff here has never had proper hospitality training, let alone skills of apologizing. And we were placed right beside a pile of dirty dishes and leftovers, which kept growing bigger and bigger. That and the long wait combined was simply gross.
The only reason I give this place 2 instead of 1 star was because my kids didn't complain about their food (Pork Chop with Honey Sauce and Rice).
This is a well-known veteran restaurant which claimed itself to have one of the best Hainan chickens in Taipei, and should therefore be held up to proper standards. Unfortunately it utterly failed, food or otherwise.
If you're visiting this place, take caution and make sure they...

Located just a 5–7 minute walk from Shandao Temple MRT Station, Boon Keng Chicken (文慶雞) offers a cozy and casual dining experience focused on Singapore-style Hainanese chicken rice, along with a few other familiar Singaporean favourites like Bak Kut Teh and satay.
We tried their signature chicken rice, which they proudly state is authorized by Singapore’s renowned Boon Tong Kee. The portion was generous, and although it was chicken breast, the meat was remarkably tender and juicy — a pleasant surprise!
The set meal included fragrant chicken rice, a clear fishball soup, vegetables, and a small dessert (pulut hitam). The rice had that authentic Singaporean chicken rice aroma and flavour we love. For the vegetables, instead of the usual oyster sauce used in Singapore, they used a Taiwanese-style soy sauce, which gave it a nice local twist — a thoughtful and tasty adaptation.
They also offer familiar drinks like lime juice and barley, which added to the nostalgic experience. The only element that fell slightly short for me was the chilli sauce — it lacked the bold punch and zesty kick typical of the ones back home. But considering we’re in Taiwan, I truly appreciate the effort they’ve put into maintaining as much authenticity as possible.
Service was quick, the restaurant is clean and organized, and overall, it was a very enjoyable meal. If you're in Taipei and craving a comforting plate of Hainanese chicken rice, this spot is definitely worth a visit. I’d gladly recommend it to fellow Singaporeans and...
Read moremy husband found this location on a whim. it was 7:30 and we wanted something close to our stay at Wowhappy Taipei and did not have a long wait time.
we got there and was asked if we were dining in or taking out. we were directed upstairs, and the lady notified staff upstairs to expect our arrival through an earpiece. when we got up there, we were acknowledged by their staff and invited to take a seat at any table we pleased. the tables were wiped down well and clean, and menu as well as some small dishes were offered to start. we declined the small dishes
our waiter introduced popular dishes to us: hainan chicken combo (250twd), singapore fish curry (238twd?), satay (260twd?). for two, he also recommended the shareable meal combo set for 750twd. that meant a pork or half crispy chicken protein with a selection of rice, vegetable dish, soup, sweet rice porridge. the individual combo meals looked no different to us than what was offered in the combo set, so i ordered the hainan chicken, my husband his satay.
quality was great! texture was well prepared, and presentation was neat. the portion is satiating, and the taste is on the lighter side of the spectrum with a hint of sweet. that includes their self-served tea. we ate in peace , and our waiter was quick to check us out when they saw we were ready to go. note* to others: cash only!
all-in-all, a great experience: a filled-but-not-bloated tummy, responsive and professional service, easy-to-read menu (photos and english included),...
