FADEN FASAï — Restaurant in Zhongzheng District

Situated among motorcycle repair shops and the seemingly endless hot pot places on Tingzhou Road, Chez Nous is a quality addition to the Gongguan neighbourhood. The space and lighting of this intimate shop are immediately striking, with a large open kitchen next to the seating area, and a skylight helping to brighten this welcoming space. The deceptively simple dishes coming out of the kitchen include terrific desserts and a range of outstanding quiches served with salads. This is not your usual cafe fare--the chef and co-proprietor worked and trained at high-end kitchens including Taipei's Sheraton Hotel, and her talent and commitment appear in every dish. Adjust your price expectations accordingly. I also recommend their outstanding Taiwan black tea, which complements their dishes brilliantly. Beware the unusual days off (currently Tuesday and Wednesday) and the limited hours (day time only--and, as usual with independently operated cafes in Gongguan, closed in the mornings). If you can work around these restrictions, Chez Nous is well worth a visit. It's a wonderful home...

Loved this place! Not only is the atmosphere great, the food is absolutely satisfying. The price is as expensive as other cafes in Taipei, but I am surprised by the quality of the cakes. Of course the portion is small, yet I have never had such a unique apple pie before. My boyfriend who is not a big fan of sweets said it was a very good apple pie. It wasn't awefully sweet, instead some bit of saltiness of the crust mixed delicately with the gently sweet apples! Yum yum! I think it's worth it! There is however a time limit, but of no one else is in the cafe, they won't ask you to leave. Oh! And nice...

It was hard to resist the urge to peek through the greyish-blue window frame of this café as I walked by. I didn’t know exactly what drew me to this particular shop. Maybe it was the glowing warm lighting inside, or maybe it was the people sitting by the window who were deeply focused on their books or laptops. Whichever the reason was, it had magically enticed me to come into the café.
