【Lailai Dumplings】Popular Store in South Airport Night Market (bilingual 🆎)
📍 Located on a lane in Section 2 of Zhonghua Road, very easy to find. Conveniently accessible by bus, motorcycle, or on foot.
📝 Ordering procedure: Queue up next to the entrance sign 🪧 (please refer to the photo), and a waiter/waitress will ask you how many dumplings 🥟 you want. When it's your turn, they will inform you of your table number. Dumplings cost 8 yuan each, and ordering is done in multiples of five. If no specific flavor is mentioned, they will give you pork and cabbage dumplings by default (I initially wanted to order 10 pork and cabbage dumplings and 5 chive dumplings, but when I discovered the ordering rules, it was too late, and the waitress had already ordered 15 pork and cabbage dumplings for me).
🧑🏻🍳 Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (out of 5 stars); the staff members are highly coordinated and efficient in the entire process of ordering, arranging seating, and serving.
🍽️ Side dishes are ordered separately and cannot be returned or exchanged (see photo).
🥟 Dumplings: The portion size is almost twice as much as regular dumplings. I didn't feel full after eating 10 dumplings from another place, but when I ate Lailai's dumplings, I was already stuffed by the 12th dumpling. The dumpling skin is slightly too soft and fragile, so it's better to let it cool down and shrink for a while before eating. The filling is generous, and the sweetness of the pork blends with the sweetness of the cabbage, making it difficult to distinguish whose sweetness is which. The dumplings have a bit too much moisture.
🫔 Dried tofu: It is seasoned with ingredients like Sichuan pepper powder, so the more you eat, the more your tongue gets numb. It's quite salty in taste.
🥩 Beef tendon: It has a chewy texture but isn't tough. It's delicious 😋.
🔎 On-site observology: One advantage they have over other establishments is that the dumplings are made and cooked on the spot to maintain freshness. Just four people are responsible for making the dumplings. Currently, the epidemic situation has reached a certain stage, and the government is gradually lifting restrictions. The flow of people in the night market is gradually returning to prosperity. I heard Cantonese and Korean languages around me. Welcome...
Read moreFamous stall here in the night market with fresh popular boiled dumplings, with a thick chewey hand made skin. Prices are cheap and side dishes are delicious (recommend cucumber, thousand year egg tofu, and pig foot slices with chilli peppers). Soup is also very good, tastes like a hot and sour soup but... without the hot and sour, until you season it yourself using the condiments given! But it's very big portion even for small serving and filling. The hot dumplings taste like such a classic comfort meal.
The service is famously very crass here, I personally don't mind being rushed etc except when a staff member was cleaning a table behind me they spilled sauce all over the back of my jacket which was really unfortunate... another couple customers told us soon, so hopefully I can get the stain out :( but the food...
Read morewould give 0 stars if I could. we queued for 20-30 mins and then ordered takeaway becuase of the min 5 dumplings per person rule and it took insanely long. we even saw people behind us in the queue who dined in getting their dumpling first?! asked the server and they said that their takeaway is not meant to be faster and they prioritise dine-in?! what on earth??
finally got our pork cabbage dumplings after another 30 mins of waiting. tried the dumplings and they were BAD. not even average, but downright bad. the skin was thick and too chewy, the meat is not fragrant, and filling too little, and the soy sauce overpowered the vinegar and was so salty.
don't bother queueing for this!!! there must be thousands of dumplings shops...
