A-Nan Sesame Oil Chicken — Restaurant in Zhongzheng District

Taiwanese food is interesting like this, there are just countless of these "sesame oil chicken" restaurants and they each have their strengths and weaknesses, even various stores within the same franchise taste different.

Their chicken leg and pork heart is the best I've had in Taiwan so far. Meat is tender and perfectly cooked, I am guessing it must be fresh "warm body" meat. however, for the noodle and soup base, the one in banqiao night market still takes the win.

Must eat sesame oil noodles! There's usually long queue, mostly take away but also it's always fully seated. The place has tiny packed seats but definitely worth a try, the price is really cheap and reasonable. We had bowl after bowl, couldn't stop our cravings to this scrumptious, aromatic local dish that warmed us at one particular cold evening. A reminder that this soup contains alcohol (cooked with rice wine) so better not drive afterwards, or you may take a walk and visit the night market before you...

Hidden away in one of the alleys along the main night market lane. Turnover is pretty fast. Sesame chicken leg is on the "lighter" side of the flavour profile (unlike the dark coloured sesame chicken that malaysians/Singaporeans are used to) but it was very pleasant to drink and had just enough fragrance to not be too surfeiting.
