Revolver Bar in Taipei is often hyped as a cultural hotspot, but in reality, it feels more like a playground for pretentious hipsters, expat tech bros, and locals trying a little too hard to posture. When I visited, there were maybe ten people inside and three bartenders—yet somehow the vibe managed to be icy and judgmental.
I ordered a beer that apparently wasn’t “cool” enough, and it showed. The bartender didn’t even fill the glass properly, and the price was on par with Western cities—which might be fine if the atmosphere weren’t so aggressively unwelcoming.
I’m not in my early 20s, and the vibe made that very clear. The place is full of people trying to prove something—either clinging to youth or chasing clout. Even asking where the bathroom was got me a condescending look from another patron.
It’s disappointing because Revolver is supposed to be a creative, open space, but it’s so wrapped in elitist self-image that it’s lost the plot. If you’re looking for real culture or community, this...
Read moreI’ve passed by this venue quite often during the day. Got a chance to visit the first time tonight. First of all, I love the name. The ambience is authentic with lots of vintage movie posters. The veggie burrito - which they source from a nearby shop - is decent. They could add some food items on their menu, that would be nice.
I attended a live show by three local Taiwanese alt rock bands. The live music venue is intimate - it can fit around 50 people (it’s really just a small room) - and affords close proximity to the live bands. Despite the small size, the acoustics are fairly set up. Indeed they’re better than most places twice their size. I’d love to visit more often for more such acts. The crowd is mostly in their 20s and 30s.
The CKS Memorial Hall across the road looks beautiful, all lit up at night, and is an added bonus to the experience of visiting Revolver. You could soak in the vast CKS plaza after you’re done for the night at the bar. Overall, a great place to check out the local...
Read moreThere was a live act going on upstairs. We paid 600ntd for the entrance plus one drink included.I wanted dark rum with cola but they couldn’t (for an unknown reason ) do it so they put white instead. After that we had a couple of dark rum with cola 250ntd each which is fair. At the end my wife went to the bar to bring 2 shots of sailor Jerry to finish the night and charge her 250ntd each. Unacceptable because on the menu a normal drink of sailor Jerry costs 190ntd. For all the drinks that I order they provide receipts. But to her they didn’t.We thought that would be a trust worthy establishment. But apparently if you a foreigner they try to rip you off!!! (the name of the bar makes so much sense) So ask prices before you order and receipts because maybe they will overcharge you under the table! It’s so sad to feel that they treat you differently according where you are...
