ISHI RESTAURANT JAMBIANI — Restaurant in Unguja

If you want a break from the tourist beach scene, this little restaurant set back from the beach, reached through a " my magic garden" tunnel , and sitting in the middle of community buildings is a change of pace. We were the only ones there all evening. In fact, they turned on the lights and got the chef out of bed when we arrived. Food is modest, but tasty. Juices are from a can, not fresh. The rather taciturn, serious waiter is called "Captain Black Coffee" and he also runs dhow trips. This morning, with Black Coffee, a lovely cuisine connaisseur from Ishi restaurant, we went fishing on a local dowh ship ~ what an experience extraordinary.

Tassi Black fish, check 🎣. Later in the evening we arrived at Ishi restaurant and eat our well gotten gain from this morning. Had the best meal since arriving on Zanzibar. Would highly recommend! High praise to Black Coffee for this awesome cultural and authentic gastronomic island experience....

We had a great meal at Ishi, Ali the host made us feel right at home and was great to have a conversation with!
