My second visit there I ordered takeaway, they gave me the wrong order. Seems the waiter didn't understand me. I ordered BEEF PILAU. He asked if I wanted chips or rice. I said rice (because pretty sure pilau is always rice).
He certainly charged me pilau price. Got back to the hotel it was grilled beef skewers and chips.
Tried calling many times and sent WhatsApp message to try to get them to correct it and send delivery, but they don't answer the phone and no reply in WhatsApp.
English comprehension is a huge problem in Tanzania. But instead of telling you they don't understand or aren't clear, they proceed as if everything is ok then bring the incorrect thing. Shame on me for not checking but this was already after waiting 20 minutes for preparation and wanted to get back to the hotel.
Mistakes happen but they didn't reply on WhatsApp or answer the phone, so can't get any remedy without doing a credit card charge back or drive back to Paje again (bit far from my hotel).
The pic is what they gave me after ordering beef pilau.
Owner replied here to a combined review I had from 2 visits and 100% ignored this problem, so deleted and will only post the bad experience. I would appreciate a reply in WhatsApp or I'll file a credit card charge back as soon as it posts...
Read moreThe food was below mediocre. Even by myself i could have fixed a better plate in the kitchen. The french fries we ordered for junior were good though. I noticed a huge fryer where i assumed most foods are fried in.
We ordered a plate of chicken with fries and a pizza pepperoni for myself. The chicken plate came after 10 min… remarkably fast. The pizza took 30 min….
I’ll leave the rest for you to fill in.
Barely english speaking personel. Couldn’t tell me if the pepperoni was pork or not. Funny considering the owner is turkish.
The owner was very politely to entering guests that were from turkey as they spoke turkish together, which is fine ofcourse. However, him being a host of his restaurant… it would be more fitting to see him treat customers with equal interest. This was not the case however. Sadly to see selective treatment from a foreigner running a business in an african country.
Before we left we saw into the open kitchen that pasta (boiled) was kept cold in the fridge, which makes it not fresh pasta in my honest opinion. They took the pasta out the fridge and sorted it loose for a customer’s plate.
Won’t be coming back, not worth the money, nort...
Read moreEdit: Dear owner - I suggest you double check with your staff the situation I had before giving any answer to my opinion (I understand it might be difficult to accept hard truth…).
Probably the worst dining experience I had in Paje. I had been enjoying various restaurants every evening during last 10 days of my stay in Paje and got attracted by high rating on google maps of this restaurant. Food was served fast and it was the only positive thing about restaurant. I ordered coconut curry and fresh papaya juice. It was a very small portion (I really mean it…) and there was no taste of coconut at all. At the end waiter asked me about a feedback - and appologized saying chef is unwell/sick and they did not check before giving it to me really (both the quality of the food and the size - they admitted it was too small). Pity they have not checked it before and eventually did not really offer a discount either. I will not come back here again and I do not recommend...
