Roots bistro cafe Zanzibar — Restaurant in Unguja

A brilliant oriental restaurant situated on the main road in Paje. My partner and I visited several times throughout the course of our holiday and were never disappointed, quite the opposite in fact, the food was outstanding!

Featuring a range of Asian dishes inspired by Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Indian cuisine, Roots Bistro have mastered all of them, and even provide a picture menu for those unsure of how the more exotic dishes will appear, an excellent and original idea!

The dining area and open kitchen are both immaculately clean and refreshingly cool in the sultry, humid Unguja evenings, and the staff friendly and helpful, particularly or usual host, Eddy.

While difficult to recommend one dish over another, as everything we tried was exceptional, the Gyoza dumplings were a firm favourite to start. As for mains, the butter chicken curry is out of this world, genuinely one of the best I've had anywhere, and the sizzling garlic chicken is also a must-try! For those who prefer Japanese, try the Karaage, and for Korean, the Yangnam chicken is absolutely delicious.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at a wonderful restaurant that truly exceeded my expectations. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the decor was beautifully done. The food was absolutely fantastic; each dish was expertly prepared and bursting with flavor. It was clear that a lot of thought went into the menu, and everything we tried was simply delicious.

The service was another highlight of our visit. Our server was attentive and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed without being intrusive. We even had the chance to meet the owner, who was an amazing guy. He took the time to welcome us personally and shared his passion for the restaurant and its concept. It was evident that he genuinely cares about his guests and the experience they have.

Overall, our visit was memorable, and I can't recommend this restaurant enough. If you're looking for a place with great food, outstanding service, and a welcoming atmosphere, this is definitely the spot...
