Benihana at Grand Mercure Bangkok Atrium — Restaurant in Bang Kapi Subdistrict

My boyfriend and I ate dinner at this establishment last night after checking into our hotel, first when we arrived the hostess asked if we had a reservation to which I said no - She then looked into the almost empty restaurant and said they are fully booked for tonight at teppanyaki tables.

This was a big turn off for us as we did not plan to have a whole dinner and show - just wanted to eat a-la-cart. She placed us at the awkwardly high sushi bar and a couple minutes later another server came by and offered us to sit at the teppanyaki tables as she was confused why we were sitting up on these awkwardly high chairs, I told her that the hostess said the place was fully booked 👎🏼 she apologized and told us No that’s not the case we can get you seated comfortably if you want! - that was nice but too little too late.

Onto the case of food poisoning,

We ate everything the same but the only thing I decided to take away and eat later was the fried rice.

My boyfriend on the other hand ate the entire bowl of Benihana hibachi fried rice and 4 hours later he started having violent vomiting episodes and diarrhea.

This lasted from 1 AM - 11:30 AM this morning, until I was able to run out to get him activated charcoal to save him.

The hotel has not responded to our complaint and we are extremely upset. They also said they will investigate the matter but we have not heard from them since 6 AM when we called management for help. The night floor manager did come to our room to give us glucose powder, but it did not help.

It is extremely inappropriate for a international chain restaurant such as Benihana for not ensuring food safe handling. Needless to say we will never be returning to an establishment...
