Tom-Zab Restaurant — Restaurant in Choeng Thale

We arrived bright eyed and hopeful as the menu looked great, prices looked affordable and the atmosphere was nice. However, the night did take a sour turn. This began when we ordered a mango egg salad based on the picture on the menu, and when it came out it looked so different to the picture entirely we had to question whether we received the correct dish. We also ordered a crispy garlic fish. On the menu it said the price was based on the size of the fish. They did not quote prices or show us options for fish size, instead it seems they prepared the biggest fish in the restaurant to serve to us (despite only being a party of two people). We could not help but speculate if this was done because we were tourists. At the end of the meal, they charged us 800 baht for the fish. Our total meal price was almost 1500 baht which was shocking and disappointing as we chose the restaurant based on the menu and pricing; as we were looking to be frugal. All in all, we felt scammed and hope no one else has this...

It’s a good local restaurant with several special features. First, it has a grill where all kind of food - fish, seafood, chicken, meat - can be cooked. Their barbecue is really good. Amazing. I came to Phuket with my mom 6 years ago and we sat at this restaurant and had the most zabb meal. Zab to Thai ppl means it’s packed with flavor and spice. 6 years later I come back with my boyfriend and was kind of scared that the recent pictures made the restaurant look like they had a American/foreign takeover in dishes.
